My daughter often asks me, “How do you do it all? When I get home from work, I don’t feel like doing anything but sitting on my butt.”
My answer – “You just do it.”
You have a choice. Either you do the things that need to be done, or you let them pile up and create more chaos in an already stressful life. Right?
We had an episode yesterday. You might remember that my house used to be one of 6 resort cottages back in the 1920s – 1950s. I’ve written fefore about how they found Al Capone’s counterfeit plates under my house when they raised it to put in the basement. Two of the cottages are still standing and have been refurbished and made into livable homes. Small, but livable.
My neighbor forgot to pay her electric bill. We are on the same well, and the pump and filter are set up in her house. That meant we had no water last night. I went out and got drinking water, and filled containers with hose water from other neighbors for toilet flushing. We managed OK, but we were not able to do dishes. A little survival training, and lessons in not taking things for granted.
Today when I got home, I had to deal with mountains of dishes before I could even begin to think about cooking. You couldn’t move. Did I feel like it? NO!
Did I feel like taking the dog out to get exercise? NO!
Do I want the dog to be healthy and active as long as possible? Yes! So I have to let him get plenty of exercise.
I don’t like when my house is not clean. It doesn’t have to be spotless, but a dirty house is stressful.
If you want to live a good life, then you need to just do what needs to be done, whether you feel like it or not. You’ll feel a lot better once its done.
