Negative cycles have a way of taking on a life of their own. One thing feeds into the next, and the next, and like dominoes – things come crumbling down.

Here’s a typical cycle that we all find ourselves in from time to time…

You feel depressed…

You let the house go – you don’t feel like cleaning up…

You get more depressed every time you look around…

So you eat bad because there’s no clean spot to cook, and you just don’t feel like making anything…

So then you have no energy from eating the crap…

You drag yourself out of bed and into the disaster of a bathroom and struggle to get yourself ready for work on time.

Then you feel bad when you look in the mirror because you’ve put on a few pounds…

Forget trying to make breakfast or a lunch…

Oh yeah baby – that wheel will just keep on turning until you decide to slam on the brakes.

If you’ve fallen into this cycle –

Drink a big glass of water

Honestly it is one thing that give you a feeling of accomplishment fast. You can spend 15 or 20 minutes on the kitchen and have it looking pretty good. Instant gratification. Tackle one thing every night and you’ll be feeling better about yourself and your life pretty quickly.

Positive cycles can take on a life of their own too.

The house feels good…

You’re in a better mood…

You’re more inclined to make healthier food

You feel better…

You look better…

People compliment you…

You feel proud…

You start doing better at work…

You get a raise…

OK, you get my point.

How do you stop the cycle from taking hold in the first place?

You know when you don’t feel like doing something?

Tough. Do it anyway.

Remind yourself what happens when you don’t.

You’ll find that once you actually start doing something, it s not that hard to finish it. For some reason its the getting started part that trips us up.
