I don’t know about you, but I hate grocery shopping.
In my case, it has to do with when I was a baby. My father told me that he and my mom knew where all the all-night grocery stores were. I was like, “What did you do with me?”
He said, “We took you with of course.”
That explains why I’m a night owl, and why I hate grocery shopping.
In the early days, It would take at least an hour just to do the grocery shopping. Then you still need to get it home and in the house. Now, I can be done and put away in less than an hour.
Here are tips for speeding up this unpleasant task –
Keep a running list
As you are running out of things, put them on your list. You should have a pretty good idea of how fast you go through things.
If there are certain things that you buy every week, put them on your next list right away.
Write your list to match the store layout
Put all of your produce first since that usually is where you start out in the store. Then bakery, deli, meat, dairy, and so on.
Use the sale papers to plan your menus
I am definitely a loss leader shopper. When my favorite chicken is on sale, you know we’re going to have a lot of chicken dishes for the next couple weeks 😉
Cherries are starting to appear at the stores. So is watermelon. You can keep your menus varied by taking advantage of seasonal foods.
Wait! How does that speed up grocery shopping?
I no longer go up and down the aisles. I pretty much shop the outside perimeter of the store. I’m in and out of the store in a flash!
Not only does this save you a bunch of time, but you’re not being tempted to buy a bunch of stuff you shouldn’t be eating anyway.
You’ll save time, be healthier, lose weight, and save money. Can’t beat that!
