“Constant lying is not aimed at making the people believe the lie, but at ensuring that no one believes anything anymore. A people that can no longer distinguish between truth and lies can not distinguish between right and wrong.”
Hannah Arendt Historian & Philosopher 1906 – 1975
Let’s face it…
The world feels a little crazy right now.
In fact, it’s felt a little crazy for a while.
We had lockdowns…
Then Russia and Ukraine at war…
Then Israel and Palestine…
AI coming onto the scene and promising mass disruption…
Now the goings-on in the Middle East and other areas around the world…
The crazy weather devastations…
It can be hard to keep up.
And it can be unsettling, too.
I want to remind you of something though…
You can’t control any of that stuff.
Neither can I.
We can’t control AI…
We can’t change what is happening in the Middle East and in other countries around the world…
We can’t control the weather…
So…
What can I do?
I can ensure my own house is in order.
What do I mean by that?
I can ensure I’m the best mother, neighbor, and friend I can be.
THAT I can control.
And THAT is what impacts those around me.
Many people get caught up in the news and what is going on…
…and almost use it as an excuse to not get their house in order.
“What’s the point when XYZ is happening?”.
Well…
Because you can’t control XYZ, but you do have more control over what goes on under your roof…
In your community…
In your own mind and body…
In your business and future.
Why not start there?
Why not start with what you can have an impact over, and focus on that, rather than focus on things you have no impact over?
I can sit and think about how I can help myself, my loved ones and others…
I can keep my home in order, and welcoming to all who enter.
I can be kind, even when I’m annoyed.
I can take care of my health to the best of my ability, and be an example to others.
I can lend a helping hand, or a sympathetic ear when needed.
I can make a great meal for family or friends, or plan a potluck.
I have one friend who is always putting together social gatherings.
I have another who loves to decorate for holidays.
Others love to garden.
All of these things spread happiness.
You never know how big the impact can spread and grow.
Just something for you to think about today…
Have you been getting caught up in things you can’t control?
If so, this is just a little nudge to not forget about those things you can control…
