Vitamin B-12

Vitamin B-12 is important for metabolism, converting food to energy. It helps in the formation of red blood cells and keeps your central nervous system functioning properly.

Low levels of B-12 can cause anemia as well as numbness or tingling in the extremities and other neurologic symptoms such as weakness and loss of balance. Deficiency is also being tied to irritability, personality change, mild memory impairment, dementia, depression, psychosis, artery disease and strokes.

Decreased B-12 levels was most commonly seen in older adults. It has been decreasing due to the overuse of antacids like Pepcid, Prilosec, and Zantac which can block your body’s ability to absorb Vitamin B12.

New studies have shown that Vitamin b-12 can help prevent Alzheimer’s and depression, and lower homocysteine levels.

Injections of Vitamin B 12 have been used to treat conditions such as Bursistis with great success. This must be administered by a Doctor.
