So many people are out looking for some crazy diet where you can lose 100 pounds fast, and then go back to eating the way they were eating before. That makes no sense!
But changing your eating habits is probably one of the hardest things to do. It not only requires changing your mind about the foods you like to eat, but you also have to change your eating habits. Do you come home from work too tired to cook? Is there nothing ready to cook when you come home?
Here’s the thing. Life happens to us all. I don’t know anyone who is not retired that has enough time. Everyone is too busy.
So how do some people reach their goals, and most people can’t?
The first step is making it important. You won’t do anything that is not personally important to you.
Did you ever notice that people suddenly want to eat healthy after they’ve developed a health problem? Suddenly it becomes important.
People who are getting married are suddenly focused on losing weight so they can look great on their special day.
You lose your job, and suddenly dusting off the resume becomes important.
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could make things important before a crisis occurs?
You can.
Make a list of all of the benefits of reaching your goal. Dig down. Find the ones that stir emotion. The things that are really important to you.
If your goal is to lose weight or get healthier, or both – your list may include things like –
Having lots of energy
Not being in pain
Being able to run around with the kids (or grandkids)
Seeing your grandkids … (fill in the blank)
Not looking old
Looking sexy
Feeling sexy
Not dishing out hundreds of dollars every month for meds.
Not having to take so many sick days
Walking on your cheating husband’s grave. Don’t laugh. I knew someone who had that goal.
Find something that moves you to action. Its really the same process for any goal that you want to accomplish. Uncover the deepest reason why its important to you to reach that goal.
Once it becomes important to you – I dare anyone to try and stop you!
