Ravioli with Marinara Sauce

1 package (24 oz) frozen ravioli (or tortellini)
1 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 can (14.5 oz.) recipe ready diced tomatoes, Marinara style
1 can (6 oz.) Italian style tomato paste
¾ cup dry white wine, chicken broth, or water
¼ cup chopped fresh basil
(You can also substitute red sauce for the marinara sauce. )
Cook ravioli according to package directions.
Meanwhile cook onion and garlic in oil 3 – 5 minutes, or until tender. (also pepper and/or mushroom if using)
Add undrained tomatoes, paste, wine and basil.
Simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve sauce over ravioli.
Serve with grated Parmesan and/or basil if desired. Or grated mozeralla.
Optional- add 1 cup green, yellow, or red pepper strips, and/or 1 cup sliced mushrooms.
