There are a lot of things you can do to keep cool in the summer heat. Here are some of my favorite tips for staying cool –
1. Use fans, even when the air is on. It circulates the cool air and your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard.
2. Wear a Cooling neck towel around neck or a neck fan. I have a neighbor who wears the neck fan all the time. She says it works.
3. Wear a cooling hat. I have a Mission baseball hat. It does work.
4. Splash your face and arms with cool water. You can keep a small spray bottle with you. Put it in a cooler for a cold blast!
5. Ice cream, smoothies, shakes, ice water, ice tea, etc. I get chilled when I have a shake or ice cream.
6. Banana “ice cream”. Its not really ice cream. Its just a frozen banana in the blender until smooth and creamy. You can add berries if you want.
7. Limit being outdoors during the day. A few of us meet up and sit outdoors in the evening when the sun is low and there is a little breeze. Its nice to get away from the air conditioning for a while.
8. Boating, swimming, just being in the water.
9. Go to the library, or the movies.
10. Close the blinds when the sun is shining in.
11. Use a sun shade in the car. The Sunshade I have has sort of a foam backing. It really makes a difference.
12. Don’t use the oven! Have fresh vegetables and something on the grill to keep the kitchen cool and clean up easy. There’s enough recipes here – there’s no excuse!
13. Take a warm shower before bed. Sounds counter intuitive, but you get cooler when you get out.
14. If it has cooled down at night, put a box fan blowing out in the living room window. Open the bedroom windows, but leave the rest of the windows closed. It will pull the cool air through the bedrooms. I’ve woken up chilly using this method.
(Using a box fan on your patio helps keep mosquitos away. They have a hard time flying in the breeze. )
15. Don’t go to the store. Walking in hot parking lots is no fun. Then getting into a hot car… Try Walmart Plus for free for 30 days. You’ll be hooked.
I am a Walmart affiliate. If you buy through any of my links, I get a small commission that helps keep this site running. Thanks!
