Lentils – traditional

lentils

 

1 lb. bag of lentils

1 stick butter

1 small onion, diced

4 medium cloves of garlic, sliced

 

Put all ingredients in a pot

Put in enough water to just cover

Bring to a boil

Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until lentils are tender – about 30 minutes

Stir occassionally and add more water if needed

Some people add a chopped up green pepper, and/or a chopped up tomato towards the end.

One lady tops it with grated carrots.
