Keeping Housework Under Control

keep homemaking easy

Time for a routine change up! Trying to get out of our summer mindset to keep up with everything that needs to be done to get ready for winter and holidays, and still keep up with daily demands can be a challenge. Here are some tips to help you keep on track.

Planning Dinners –

The days are shorter. The transition always messes with my mind clock. If I want to do something outdoors, I have to adjust dinner time to allow us to be outside after dinner.

If you have school aged kids, you have a lot more commitments.

Dinners need to be planned ahead, and fast to prepare. Our recipes fit the bill. I was a working single mom. Making a great dinner fast was a challenge. My recipes here are fast, easy, inexpensive, and delicious. Make sure to explore them in the menu. You can also type “fast dinners” in the search to get some ideas.

House cleaning often slips down the list.

The good news is, that a few daily habits will keep your home looking clean.

Do these things everyday. They don’t take much time.

Kitchen & Dining

  • Clear the table, load dishes, hand-wash what needs to be hand-washed,
  • wipe down counters, table, and stove,
  • set up coffee, take out trash.

If you’re focused this will only take about 15 minutes. If you have help, it will go even faster.

Bath

  • Squeegee shower or use a daily shower spray.
  • Wipe down mirror if needed.
  • Wipe down counter and sink.
  • Check toilet.

Time spent – about 5 minutes.

Family areas –

Pick up and put away. This step is easier if you put things away when you’re done. Again, recruit everyone.

Other tips-

Keep cleaning supplies close to where you will need them. If that means buying duplicates, so be it. Its not like you won’t use them.

Keep bath supplies in or near the bathroom.

Keep a feather duster, or Swiffer Duster on each floor making it easy to do a quick dust.

The thing to remember is consistency is key. Don’t let things pile up in the first place. Taking a little bite is much easier than trying to eat a whole elephant.

Keep up with it. You will feel so much better. I promise!
