Fall is such a fickle season. There will be many days that are nice enough to enjoy the outdoor fall activities. Then all of the sudden, we’re scrambling to get everything down before its time to hunker down.
Its too early to start many of the fall chores. You’ll probably still want to use your patio furniture. Especially if you have a fire pit. Heck, the leaves haven’t started falling yet.
But there are some things you can start doing now to ease the burden next month…
Wash windows. Winter is depressing enough. You don’t want to look at it through dirty windows.
Have the chimney inspected and cleaned.
Test the furnace and change filters. Have extra filters on hand.
Winterize the car.
- Check tires
- Check wipers
- Check Fluids
- Change oil
Check caulk around windows and doors.
Check weatherstripping.
Replace worn attic insulation, or add.
Seal gaps around pipes and vents.
Consider insulating pipes, especially near outside walls.
Start gift shopping now if you haven’t already.
Its easier on your budget. Its easier to find gifts that are meaningful instead of last minute desperation. Just keep your eyes open when you’re shopping. At a minimum, put money aside each week to make it easier on the budget.
Consider slimming down your gift buying list. Many of us are agreeing to cut down the lists, or do something less expensive. Don’t feel bad about it.
One idea I’ve seen recently is to start collecting family recipes on your computer. You can put them into a PDF to make a thoughtful gift.
Start knocking things out a little at a time. You’ll thank yourself later.
