This is an old southern favorite! We called them fried apples when I was growing up. Its kind of like apple pie filling without the crust. But in the south, its a side dish.
Someone gave me some apples, so of course, I made fried apples. They were so good, I was eating them right out of the pan.
Then later, I had a bowl of warm apples with ice cream. Soooo good!
There really isn’t a recipe. Some people like peeled apples. Others eat the peels for more nutrients. I prefer peeled.
Some like granny smith apples, others like red apples. I’ll use whatever apples are available.
I have to watch myself. I have a tendency to use too much sugar. Start sparingly. You can always add more.
To make Fried Apples
Core and slice apples
Melt 2-3 tablespoons butter in a large frying pan.
Place apple slices in pan. Should be enough to fill pan.
Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
Stir gently to mix completely.
Cook over medium heat until apples are soft.
Serve immediately.
