OK, you wouldn’t normally think of Carbohydrates as a vitamin. You might want to think again.
Carbohydrates provide your energy. That includes the energy it takes for blood to pump, organs to work, digestion to take place, breathing, along with what we normally consider energy. While all carbs end up as glucose, complex carbs take longer to digest and don’t cause the ‘surge’ in blood sugar levels that simple carbs do. (Simple carbs would be white sugar, honey, milk, fruits and fruit juices.)
The more active you are, the more carbs you need. If you are a couch potato, the carbs you eat end up being stored by your body as fat for use at a later time when you might need the energy. Eat your carbs earlier in the day when you will be most likely to burn them off.
Where to get complex carbs –
Beans, breads, cereals, nuts, pasta, potatoes, seeds, whole grains
