Replace low sodium chicken broth for the water when preparing your rice.
When it gets to the point where you simmer, throw in a handful of small broccoli florets.
To make it even heartier, after the water has absorbed, throw in a cup of shredded cheddar cheese and stir until the cheese is melted.
Or, stir in some sweet and sour sauce instead of the cheese for an oriental flair. I love this one. I could eat a ton of sweet and sour rice with broccoli.
Or, you could add teriyaki sauce instead. Maybe some peanuts, or mushrooms, or red onion, a touch of crushed red pepper …
