When I was growing up, we had a basic balanced meal at dinner. It consisted of these 3 courses –
- Protein – beef, poultry, fish, …
- Vegetable
- Starch (that’s what we called it back then)
With a little imagination, you can make these simple 3 course dinners most of the time. They are the fastest dinners you can make.
Here’s the formula.
Pick your protein – Steak Hamburger Chicken Breast Pork Chop Fish Omelet  | Pick your Vegetable Tossed salad Steamed Broccoli Carrots Green Beans Grilled Peppers and Onions Asparagus | Pick your Side 2nd vegetable Fruits Baked Potato Baked Sweet Potato Beans Rice Buttered Noodles |
Now of course, there can be many choices in each category. The ones listed are just to get your brain working.
Now pick an item from each category.
Done!
Some of my go-to dinners are –
Steak, baked potato, steamed broccoli
Pork chop, baked sweet potato, green beans
Cheeseburger, tossed salad, watermelon
Occasionally you can use things like a rotisserie chicken, fresh potato salad from the deli, or even baked french fries.
Once you get in the habit of thinking about dinner this way, meal planning becomes a lot easier.
Keep it simple!
