Love Pizza, but…

Pizza Bread

I love pizza. But a good pizza is expensive – especially when you add delivery and tip.

Oh, you can save a few bucks and go pick it up yourself, but  (fill in the blank…you’re tired, the weather stinks, …)

What’s a pizza lover to do?

Here’s a few pizza inspired ideas…

Ultimate Pizza Bread

Make some garlic Texas Toast, or garlic bread.

Meanwhile, saute onions and green peppers until softened. (optional)

Heat up some spaghetti sauce.

Put plenty of hot spaghetti sauce on top of the garlic bread.

Top with onions and green peppers if using.

Top with plenty of grated Mozzarella cheese and give it a couple minutes to melt.

Devour.

I actually made this tonight and the house still smells delicious. Sorry, I never remember to take a picture 🙁

Pizza Tater Tots

Make Tater Tots according to package directions.

Meanwhile, heat up spaghetti sauce.

Top Tater Tots with hot spaghetti sauce and Mozzarella cheese.

The onions and green peppers work with this too.

For a Mexican version, use salsa and cheddar cheese.

Pizza Veggies

Prepare a packaged vegetable mix like broccoli, carrots, peppers, etc. according to package directions.

Top with hot spaghetti sauce and grated Mozzarella cheese.

You can stay low carb, or serve over pasta if you like.

Of course there’s always Parmesan.

I take a piece of grilled chicken breast seasoned with garlic and put it on a bed of pasta. Top with spaghetti sauce and grated Mozzarella. I do not bread the chicken.

Fake Baked MostaccioliOne of my go-to dinners is what I call Fake Baked Mostaccioli. Its fast, filling and cheap.

Prepare Mostaccioli noodles according to package directions.

Top with hot spaghetti sauce and grated Mozzarella cheese.

Here are the 2 versions of spaghetti sauce that I make…

Spaghetti Sauce Version 1 – Meat Sauce

1 lb. ground beef browned and drained

1 – 14.5 oz. can petite diced tomatoes – plain – 100% natural

2 – 6 oz. cans 100% natural tomato paste

2 1/2 – 6 oz. cans water

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning

1 teaspoon Oregano

pinch of sugar (to cut acidity)

Optional – finely diced onion

Mix it up. Let it simmer 30 minutes. It’s best made the night before.

Spaghetti Sauce Version 2-

1 – 14.5 oz. can petite diced tomatoes – plain – 100% natural

2 – 6 oz. cans 100% natural tomato paste

2 1/2 – 6 oz. cans water

2 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoon basil

pinch of sugar (to cut acidity)

Mix it up. Let it simmer 30 minutes. It’s best made the night before.

This sauce is best over Mostaccioli Rigati (with lines).

OK, I like to add some browned crumbled Italian sausage for taste. In the Mediterranean style, you just add a little meat for flavor.

Carole, You’re one clever girl. I’m glad you manage to do it yourself. I’m impress. I don’t even know how to start with that pizza.
