That sounds weird. But the task this week is to do a very thorough vacuuming.
Every nook, cranny, cushion…
Here’s what we’re going to do –
Baseboards
You can either vacuum the baseboards with your brush attachment, or dust them off. Wash as needed. Really get those corners!
Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum
I’m serious when I say be anal. Vacuum the furniture – including vacuuming the cushions and under cushions, mattresses, behind the furniture, under the beds, under the appliances in the kitchen. Move every little box, magazine rack, etc.
Hey, don’t complain. My sister requires that level of vacuuming every time in every house she cleans.
Why vacuum the mattresses?
If you’ve ever had a Kirby demonstration done at your house, you’ve seen why you want to vacuum your mattresses. ICK! All that dust, and those dust mites, and dead skin… Gross! It will help allergies a whole lot when you vacuum your mattresses. If you have a memory foam topper, check your manufacturers instructions.
It could be worse!
There is a stucco ceiling in the family room here. I have to vacuum the ceiling. So don’t feel bad – your situation could be worse!
This task can take you a while if you are really being thorough. Keep reminding yourself that this will reduce your house cleaning overall. It will also reduce allergy suffering.
Yes, its a couple of hours out of your life, but its worth it in the long run. Turn up the music and keep going! Its great exercise.
hmmm, now that I think about that, make sure to do some stretches before you start.
Here’s what we’ve worked on so far –
Task 1 – Pick a room or two and wash the walls. Extra points for washing window treatments
Task 2 – Wash figurines. Extra points for cleaning and polishing the tables and shelves before putting things back.
Task 3 – Get paper piles sorted, file taxes.
Task 4 – Clean ceiling fans. Extra points for all light fixtures.
Task 5 – Clean vent covers
Task 6 – Clean door frames, window frames and doors.
Task 7 – Thorough Vacuuming
It may not feel like it, but if you’ve one all of these tasks, you have accomplished a lot! And guess what?
You’re almost done!
How does that feel?
Pretty good, right?
You Rock!

Hi Carole, I just bought a new vacuum cleaner this week. I had the last one for about 8 years which was pretty good. I like bagless cleaners as I find them easier to deal with- I have a few people in our family who are allergic to dust. The new one is bagless again but it has an improved HEPA filter and really does a good job. Tomorrow’s to-do list now includes your tips for thorough vacuuming. Happy Spring Cleaning!
Hi Fiona! Congrats on the new vacuum. You’ll have to let us know what kind and if you like it. This weekend will be a good test!
I still have my old Kirby. She’s like 20 years old and still works better than anything else I’ve tried – but its soooo heavy! I still won’t buy a new vac until this one dies.
I hope you love yours!
Wow! That is a lot of vacuuming to be done, coupled with lifting and pushing things around. Well at least with my new Electrolux Upright vacuum, I can get the job done easier since this thing sucks up dirt you never knew could be hiding in certain places. I will surely try it on the mattress; I hope I do not get too grossed out by what will be sucked up.
Oh my goodness! You made me laugh!
Good luck with your new vacuum. I hope it works great for you. I hope ou don’t get too grossed out 😉
