Its the little things that make you happy – if you let them

We have this tendency to look for things we cannot have with such longing… if only I had ___________, then I would be happy.

But in reality, its the little things that make us happy – if we let them.

Tonight I made a cheeseburger. It was mad with lean ground beef and seasonings, perfectly melted cheese, crisp cool lettuce, juicy tomato, spicy mustard, tangy barbecue sauce, and relish.

It was so juicy that the juice was running down my arm.

It was homemade, so I didn’t have to feel the least bit guilty about enjoying it. As a matter of fact, I try to eat beef once a week for the nutrition that you cannot get from any other food source.

When I finished enjoying my cheeseburger, it was time to walk the dog. Mind you, I got home at 9 PM. It was going on 10 PM at this point. The last thing I wanted to do was walk the dog.

But once I got out there, I realized that it was cool – but enjoyable. The sky was clear and there were lots of stars. I even saw a shooting star. We walked along in the cool quiet night air and both of us thoroughly enjoyed the walk.

Last weekend, there was an art fair. We walked around, enjoyed the beautiful weather, talked to people, and had a good time.

There was a celebration at a local historical mansion. We got to walk around inside the mansion learning the history of the family that built it. There was a swing band out on the lawn. They were very good. Even my daughter was enjoying the music. It was another beautiful day. The whole experience was like being swept away to another time. The food was free. What more could you ask for?

That first cup of coffee in the morning… do you even taste it? Slow down for a couple of minutes and enjoy it.

Take 2 minutes, turn you face towards the sun and enjoy soaking up the healing rays for a couple of minutes.

I’m lucky that my drive to work is pretty. I allow a few extra minutes so I can actually enjoy the drive.

I’m happy when my house is clean. Aren’t you?

It doesn’t take money to make you happy. Money sure helps relieve stress – but money in and of itself will not make you happy.

Yes, not having enough money makes you unhappy. But you can find little things that will make you happy every day – if you let them.

Give your heart a break. Allow yourself to be happy at least a little every day. 🙂

I totally agree Carole! It’s the little things in life that make a difference…
For me: The first coffee of the day, a smile from my young son, a purr from the cat when you walk into the room, coming back after a hectic day and appreciating a clean house, clean sheets and pillowcases in bed, a chilled mango from the fridge which drips juice so much that we encourage enjoying them at the kitchen sink!! and a deep soak in a bubble bath which makes you sleep like a log! Little things mean a lot.
