I’ve been suffering through walking the dog the last couple
of weeks. Sub-zero temperatures, tons of snow. He’s wrenched
my back he’s so hyper. Everyone always comments, oh, you’re
always walking that dog. Well, that’s part of owning a dog.
Even if you didn’t want the dog in the first place. Can you
relate?
I was thinking, last month I guess, the FDA approved diet
pills for dogs. What is wrong with people? If you don’t want
to take care of yourself, that’s one thing. But if you’re
letting your kids and your pets get to where they need diet
pills, there is something really wrong, don’t you think?
I mean, if you’re responsible for another life – what right
do you have to not take care of it properly? Like many of
you, I got stuck with this dog. But as long as I choose to
keep him in this house, it’s my responsibility to make sure
he gets dog food, not people food – except for a few things
that are good for him in moderation. He loves broccoli.
Weird, I know.
But it’s also up to me to make sure that he gets the
exercise he needs. If I get to the point where I just can’t
stand to do it anymore, then I need to turn him over so he
gets the care he needs. To feed him foods that are bad for
his health, and let him get fat and sick would be just as bad
as letting him run loose and get hit by a car. Do you agree,
or am I off base here?
But people show the same lack of caring for their kids too.
So what should I expect? All this childhood obesity stuff.
It’s a sin.
Don’t get me wrong, too thin is not good either. I don’t
think everyone should look like live skeletons. If you read
my books and articles, you know I advocate eating all kinds
of foods, desserts and chocolate included.
I don’t understand how the perception of what good food is
got to be so screwed up, and how eating right got to be so
out of style. Are people so easily brainwashed? Apparently
so, ey? Pop another pill, or paste on another patch and
everything will be fine. Or Not.
The National Institute of Health has predicted that if we don’t
change our ways, life expectancy in the U.S. will start to
decline for the first time since 1850. You can read the
report here –
Why? Why are people killing themselves, their kids, and even
their pets? If someone could explain this to me I would really
appreciate it, because I really don’t understand. I don’t eat
perfectly. I should work out more. But I make every attempt
to eat at least 3-5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
Yes, short of the 7-9 that are recommended, but more than
most people. I take vitamins to make up for my imperfections.
You don’t have to be perfect. Just reasonable. Moderation and
plain old common sense.
So, let’s say for the sake of argument that people just really
don’t understand how to eat healthy, or they find it too
confusing, or too much effort. I find that hard to believe
with all of the information out there, but, lets’ say that’s
the case.
How can we reach more people and educate them and start
to turn this ship around? How can we teach people that eating
healthy is not boring, and doesn’t taste terrible, and it’s not
hard or a lot of extra work? How can we teach them how to
eat to feel better, get healthier, and lose excess weight?
I’ve written an ebook that comes with a fast start guide,
and hundreds of recipes. I write and publish articles. I
have affiliates to help spread the word. What else can
I do? What else can you do? How can we help to change
this?
Any ideas? Feedback?
