Its the weekend before Mother’s Day Have you gotten her gift? Are you struggling to find new ideas?
Here in the Midwest, its pretty easy. Mother’s Day is the official first day of planting in this zone. That leaves a ton of options if your Mom likes to garden, or at least have pretty flowers to look at.
Now with the new health craze, a salad garden is hot. And its pretty easy I’ve grown one for many years. Green leaf lettuce is pretty easy to grow from seed. I’ve had the most luck with Black Seeded Simpson. If you plant a few seeds every week, you’ll always have lettuce to pick.
Its too late to start tomatoes or broccoli from seed. I like to get cherry tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, and a couple broccoli plants. Home grown tomatoes an broccoli are a real treat. So much better than store bought!
Of course you can expand out from there. I’ve had hit or miss success with radishes from seed. When they grow, they are really good. You can grow onions, cucumbers, all kinds of peppers….
Then of course, there’s always flowers. A nice planter that will bloom all summer is a great gift. If your mom is a working mom, you might want to do a moonlight planter with white flowers that will sort of glow at night in the moonlight. Even better if they’re fragrant.
Getting away from gardening – another hot craze is essential oils. People swear by them. A starter kit would be a great gift.
Crabtree & Evelyn Hand Therapy is some awesome hand cream. I got some for Christmas.
Then there are the Bath and Body Works Gift Sets for total pampering…ahhh…
Just a few ideas for you.
