Breast Cancer Awareness Month


October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so I thought I’d contribute some healthy eating tips to help you avoid this dreaded disease.

Eat some of these anti-cancer foods everyday –


Broccoli is one of the greatest super foods you could eat. How does it help prevent breast cancer? By helping your body get rid of excess estrogen.


Green tea is another miracle in your kitchen – it’s full of disease fighting anti-oxidants, improves your mood, and current research shows that it helps cut off the blood supply to tumors and starves them.


One glass of red wine a day contains a chemical called reservatrol that also helps destroy cancer cells. Of course, you can also find reservatrol in red grapes, and red or purple grape juice, and cranberries, and blueberries. More than one glass of wine a day causes an increase in estrogen. Limit yourself to one glass! You can have as much of the other stuff as you want, and they’re all really good for your heart too!


You know that you need fat for your body to absorb and use certain vitamins, right? (A,D, & E) But, there’s good fats, and bad fats. Olive oil is top of the good fat list. Eat olives. Put olive oil on your salad and veggies. Dip your French bread in a mix of olive oil and parmesan cheese. Olive oil breaks down when cooked however.


New research shows that olive oil destroys a gene that that causes breast cancer.


Orange and red vegetables contain carotenoids that keep your cells strong and healthy and able to ward off cancer. Carrots, sweet potatoes, and red peppers are loaded with carotenoids.


Get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. It can be in 10 minutes chunks. It doesn’t have to be at the gym, and it doesn’t have to be labeled ‘exercise’. Just get that body moving! There’s a lot of things you can do that get your body moving.



Vitamin D is an important nutrient that people are not getting enough of with all of the skin cancer scares. Now we’re not getting the sunlight we need for our bodies to make vitamin D. And it’s causing all sorts of problems – including an increase in cancers. Try to get 15 minutes a day of unprotected sun exposure. Take supplements. I personally don’t take much comfort in “fortified” foods, and I don’t recommend milk. There’s definitely 2 schools of thought on milk. I’m in the never touch it group, and I’m really healthy.  My sister loves milk, and she’s a medical mess.



DO NOT EAT processed soy products. All those soy burgers, foods with soy… You can eat tofu if you want to – but who really wants to?






Eat organic meat as much as possible. Especially stay away from big name processed ready to eat products. Any bagged or boxed chicken or other meats should be avoided at all costs. That is their lowest quality meat and is full of hormones and antibiotics, and who knows what else. When buying fresh, look for hormone free, and antibiotic free.

Do not take antibiotics if you don’t need them. Not only does it decrease the effectiveness of the antibiotic when you do need it, it also raises your risk of breast cancer by 50%.
