You already know that I’ve been let’s say – technology resistant. I just don’t like being chained to things all day – and besides, having to learn all this new stuff has me tearing my hair out most days.
Yes, I sometimes prefer the old way of doing things –
This week I have finished a boatload of work – and it’s only Wednesday. And it’s all due to one old productivity tool. It works the same every time I remember to drag it out and use it. It never fails.
Want to know what it is?
Pen and paper.
Whenever I take the time to handwrite out a list of things I want to accomplish, they get done faster and easier. It works every time. When I see that list on my desk, I just get to it. Otherwise, I’m off wasting time trying to figure out what I should do next.
Psychologists have said that there is something different about a handwritten list. It seems to somehow hard wire it into our brain.
I just know for me that all the technology hasn’t been as effective as plain old pen and paper. Plus, it’s totally portable and doesn’t need batteries or charging.
And it’s gratifying to cross things off that list.
Put down the blackberry and the cell phone and try it for a day and let us know how it works for you.
