Its an epidemic these days, isn’t it? Kids get tons of presents, and not cheap ones.
Back in the day, we used to get 2 or 3 nice gifts. One was your big gift. Then you would get some stuff in your stocking. And we were thrilled with it.
Now add to that the new trend of never letting your child lose. They should never experience disappointment, right?
Except life is full of disappointment that this child grows up incapable of coping with.
They don’t understand that to get anything worthwhile in life, you actually have to work hard for it. They never had to before…
They don’t understand that you can’t just shoot someone every time you don’t get what you want.
This “afluenza” kid is certainly bringing to light the problems created by overindulging your kids. It may seem like a ridiculous defense, but in reality – its not all his fault. He will pay the consequences for it though, and that might be the best thing that could happen to him.
Larry Winget, author of “Your Kids Are Your Own Fault” weighed in on Fox News –
We desperately need more parents who set a good example, who set boundaries, who teach their kids how to cope, and how to work for something worthwhile, how to be generous and appreciative instead of always demanding.
And most important, how much more fulfilling life is when you live this way.
Gimme, gimme, gimme is never satisfying. But love, perseverance, achievement and generosity are.
It is sad how far off track our affluent society has taken us.
What do you think?
Common Sense Lesson –
