My family and I spent a wonderful day with a friend, and her family, who loves to invite a group of people, who don't know one another very well,to lunch. Everybody brings something and contributes. Main course was salads. Dessert was pavlova. All the men took charge of the meat BBQ style. Can you imagine 6 woman in a kitchen and my 12 yr old daughter all preparing some aspect of the meal. Telling stories of their wins and disasters in the kitchen and sharing life experiences including some interesting recipe ideas. My daughter learnt so much from these ladies. She felt so grown up. Such a boost to her morale. When the kitchen was back to normal everyone sat down and really enjoyed the meal and dessert and talked about how fun the experience was. Then we all cleaned up the kitchen again. It is amazing how much of an impact others can have on your children. I often hear olympians who have won gold medals say "It was great to win this medal but the medal I won as part of a team holds a very special place in my heart because I can share this experience with others who were a part of it". I guess what I am saying to you is that it is fun to do things together instead of doing everything on your own.
