I will have to differ with you on the ritual of Black Friday. It is FUN! For me and my friends, this is our favorite adventure of the year. This is why: (1) everyone knows we are going, so no trying to get us to change our time together (i.e. It happens every year, deal with it.) (2) We get to really catch up with each other, with just us, no kids, no husbands, etc.; and (3) We plan our trip to get the really great bargains, so there is the practical aspect of it all.
In response to your remark about the store's "degrading family time", besides the fact that my family is in bed at that time of the morning, on the Friday after Thanksgiving, we are all pretty much sick of family. After spending 12+ hours cooking and putting up with all the relatives, it is a relief to just "get out of the house". (I know your Thanksgiving is quiet, but most homes have lots more people and kids around for the holidays).
You are usually right on target, Carole, but I think this time you missed the mark. I appreciate the stores making shopping fun, and giving us great prices, to boot. Besides, look at all the retail sales people that get to make some extra money! (Didn't you used to work retail?) I say it's a "win-win" situation.
Keep up the good work, but put a little more thought into Black Friday. It's a tradition, and it gets more fun every year.
