Hydroxycut Recall

:Original raster version: :en::Image:Food and ...Image via Wikipedia

The FDA issued a warning today to diets and body-builders to not take Hydroxycut.

It seems that Hydroxycut is linked to liver damage, and one death.  You can read the details here – http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090502/ap_on_he_me/us_med_diet_pill_recall

Personally, I don’t trust any hyped up pharmaceutical claims. Diet pills have always been, and will probably always be, the most dangerous things on the market. They can slap any old concoction together and call it a miracle weight loss and people will buy it by the truckload – never questioning it.

These people who seel all this stuff should be jailed.

Or should the people buying all this stuff be jailed for stupidity? I mean, if no one buys, these guys don’t have a reason to exist – do they? I just shake my head everytime another one of these stories surface.

Healthy eating baloney

I subscribe to a number of health related ezines to keep up to date on current research and such. A few of the newsletters are in the so called ‘healthy eating’ category.

Most of the time I read what they suggest you eat and I think to myself – I’d rather have the heart attack!

Here’s some of the stuff one newsletter suggested – hemp, green shakes for breakfast, alovera gel, sea vegetables, wheat grass, greens powders, and a whole bunch of other powders – I mean what the heck? This is a natural diet? For what species?

Then I read more hogwash like the label on Cool Whip Lite that says recommended by the South Beach Diet. Ever read the ingredients on that one?

Or how about the diet shakes full of sugars?

I know we all want to be trendy and try the hottest new things and be cool. But this is one case where tried and true real natural food is the way to go if you really want to be healthy and thin.

I want to save you a lot of money. Money that you’re throwing away on diets, and superfoods, and health care costs, and prescription drugs, and doctors.

You know, that’s why I got interested in the power of food. I knew I couldn’t afford prescription drugs, and I couldn’t afford to get sick. Every time I had a problem, I would look for a natural way to solve it before I would head off to the doctor. And you know what? I haven’t been to a doctor in many years. I get my readings checked at health fairs and such just to make sure that what I believe is true – and my readings always come back fine – without fasting.

And I know it all sounds a little wacko – but gosh, doesn’t eating hemp sound wacko? Does to me.

At least the way I eat won’t hurt you. It can only help. I can’t say for sure that you’ll be able to get off your insulin. I know people who have, but that doesn’t mean that everyone will. I can’t say that once you’re on blood pressure meds that eating right will get you off of them, but I know for sure, it certainly won’t hurt.

One thing I do know with absolute certainty is that if you eat the way I do, you will lose weight. Period. It’s mathematical.

And if you stop poisoning your body with all these chemicals and start giving it real nutrition, you cut your risk of all diseases.

If you’re interested in learning more about how healthy eating can improve your life – there’s Rebel With a Fork. You will learn how to eat to not only lose weight, but to cut your risk of disease, give you tons of energy to enjoy life, and keep you young.

I suggest that you go over to Rebel With a Fork  and bookmark that page. I guarantee the day will come when you will start thinking more seriously about your health, and you’ll want to make sure you can find that page again.

And always do your homework before buying into some hot new claim.

I think I’ll go make some Strawberry-Banana French Toast.

Skinny people eat a lot

Eating is often made into a social occasion.Image via Wikipedia

I was at a meeting today and again, my point was proven.

The skinny people ate a good lunch.

The heavier people didn’t.

That doesn’t seem to make sense, does it? But I see it all the time.

I offered the girl next to me some of my lunch – which she glady accepted. She said she was going out for dinner tonight, so she didn’t want to eat too much.

So many people seem to believe that if you only eat one meal, that you’ll lose weight. I absolutely guarantee you won’t.

People think that skinny people can eat what ever they want, and that’s true to an extent. But it’s what they eat, when they eat, and how they compensate for those ‘dinners out’ that makes all the difference.

In other words, if a skinny person started eating like a fat person, even thought it would probably not be any more calories than they normally eat, they would get fat. Am I making sense here?

So say you want to lose weight. Starting tomorrow – eat 3 full meals and 2 snacks throughout the day. That’s right. Eat 5 times a day. You will change how your metabolism burns the food.

OK, one bit about calories. You can’t eat 1000 or more calories at every sitting. That’s just common sense, right? I’m not telling you to load up on fast food 3 times a day and eat hostess cupcakes for snacks. A snack can be fruit, or yogurt, or baked crackers and cheese, or peanut butter…

Oh sure, there’s more to it than just that. But I can’t put the whole book up here on the blog.

Head over to the Rebel With a Fork Blog and Grab a copy of the new Skinny Living Handbook  and get all the tips you’ll ever need to live like a skinny person.

Weight Loss or Health or Both?

I just want to lose weight – why would I need a healthy eating plan?

That’s a great question!

Weight loss programs are meant to give you fast results. They are meant to be used for the short term. You can’t live on them forever, and most of them are not very good for you. While 30 days might not hurt you much, constant dieting really messes up your body.

Once people lose the weight they want, they just return to eating the way they did – and what happens? They gain it all back.

A healthy eating plan on the other hand, is something you do live with for life. Learning to eat great tasting foods that will keep you thin and healthy is a lot of fun.

A healthy eating plan improves every area of your life. Not only do you look better, but you have tons of energy, you can think clearly, you’re not depressed, you don’t need as many prescription meds as your friends (I don’t take any), your kids won’t have weight issues or behavior problems … I could go on and on about how great you’re gonna feel.

But you have to be careful. I just review a 4-week eating plan put together by doctors no less. I was shocked.

There were lots of recommendations for jarred marinara sauce, which are typically full of corn syrup.

The meal plans only have about 3 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

They recommended artificial sweeteners, eggs beaters, and soy protein. You know never to touch these things, right?

One recipe even called for canned chicken because it’s easier to shred. Never mind that it has no taste, and just by the nature of it being canned, it has extra chemicals we don’t want or need.

I personally would never make it through this 4 week plan. It was far too boring. And the red flags turned me off.

I’m guessing, based on some of the recommendations, that this plan is sort of old and came out before some of the current research came to light. I hope that’s the case anyway. And it’s not super terrible, just dated, and not the best advice.

But that’s why it’s so important for you to know more about what you’re eating so you aren’t duped by every hyped up thing that comes along. Don’t just buy into things. This is your life you’re talking about here.

If you’re not up to doing all the research yourself, and you want all the information you need in one very handy resource, and plenty of great recipes to keep you well fed grab this great healthy eating resource >>>

You’ll never have to spend another cent on dieting!
