Adapting to Life’s Changes

I’ve been working on adapting to my new schedule, and I’ve been pretty proud of myself. The house is clean, I’ve been eating well, I’m getting back to posting a little more regularly…

But I have to tell you – I haven’t been feeling too good, and I could not figure out why. I’ve been drinking less coffee and more water. I’ve been smoking less. I’ve been eating well. What the heck?

Oh sure, there’s been a lot of stress lately – new job, taxes, blizzard, car problems, new (used) car, car payment…

And my sleep schedule has been a struggle, but I’m getting at least 6 hours. I shouldn’t be feeling this bad.

I figured it out tonight. I was listening to a teleseminar, and pacing. Suddenly I realized that I felt better. That was it! I’m not getting enough exercise. I’m working a desk job, and my daughter took her dog – so I’m barely getting any exercise.

Its a relief to have it figured out. I was thinking I was going to need that new insurance. Whew!

Maybe I need to take up Yoga. Kill 2 birds with one stone – exercise and stress reduction.

Sometimes half the battle is figuring out the problem.

Participate in a Time Make-over

I received an interesting query this morning and thought I’d pass it on to you. I thought you might be interested in participating. If you do participate – come back and tell us about it! Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?

15)Summary: Seeking people for time makeovers

Name: Laura Vanderkam

Category: General

Email: lvanderkam@yahoo.com

Title:

Media Outlet: freelance (book plus articles)

Specific Geographic Region: N

Region:

Deadline: 11:07am EASTERN – 22 July

Query:

For my upcoming book 168 Hours (Portfolio, 2010) I am seeking people who
are willing to log their time for 168 hours (one week) and then participate
in a “time makeover.” This will be largely based on what the person wants
to get out of his/her time, but could include more time to sleep, better
ways to use family time, strategies for fitting in a hobby or more exercise
time, ways to invest more in career-building, etc. The ideal people already
do a lot with their time but want to do more! I want to use these makeovers
in my book, but also in the articles I will write leading up to the
release. I freelance for a variety of places including USA Today, the Wall
Street Journal, etc. (for clips see www.lauravanderkam.com). I am seeking
people from all over the country with interesting jobs or life situations,
men and women (though I particularly need more men). Please contact me at
lvanderkam@yahoo.com. Thanks! Laura Vanderkam

Earning a Superwoman Cape

Super-woman at HollywoodImage by Lucas Janin via Flickr

This week is certainly going to challenge everything that I teach you. Can she make it through in one piece? And with a clean house?  ;-)

Last week and this week I am transitioning from one job to the other. Both places need the help – badly. Plus, I’m working on the new site in my ‘spare’ time.

So far I haven’t let my diet slip – haven’t given in to fast food – yet.

I do have to admit that dusting and vacuuming have suffered a little, and there’s dog slobber on the window, but overall the house isn’t too bad – yet.

So, how am I keeping up?

Planning and discipline.

Those sound like curse words, don’t they? At least for most people.

I plan errands that I can run quickly on the way home.

Dinner is planned before I leave.

My kitchen and bathroom routines are done every night, no matter what.

Wed. and Thurs. I’m scheduled for 10 hour days. I told you they need the help! Friday is just 8 hours.

Saturday I finally have a day off – from the jobs at least. I want to get the new site ready for launch, and I still have 2 ebooks not finished – and I’m guessing I’ll have some housework to catch up on.

Will I earn my super woman cape? Stay tuned…

Anyone been watching the development of the new site? I’ve had to learn how to use joomla – so I’ve had to do some things over again, but I think it’s smoother sailing from here on out. I have a couple things to figure out yet…

Don’t tell me you don’t have time!

Help getting through the crazy times

OK, life is going to be crazy for the next few weeks. You gotta chill and get a grip. This is supposed to be a happy time of year, remember?

So, for the next few weeks I’m going to focus on specific things you can do to get through with some sanity in tact.

This week, while you’re sitting in front of the TV, write out your Christmas cards. Do a few every night, and wa-la, they’re done!

I know we just came off a holiday weekend, and work was probably pretty bad today, but don’t let things slip. Take the few extra minutes and clean the kitchen. Do a quick wipe done of the bathroom. The pay off will be not having to spend an hour cleaning them later in the week.

Here’s an article I wrote earlier this year about using rituals to survive chaos >>>
It seems appropriate this time of year. I hope you find it helpful!

Stayed tuned. I’ll post some fast recipes, the Christmas Carol ebook (when I find what the heck I did with it), and more helpful stuff!

See you soon -

Carole

Carole’s Monday Motivational

I got off to a slow start today. Too much fun over the weekend!

Saturday we had the community pig roast. It’s a big fund raising event for the lake. It helps fund weed control, removing undesirable fish, stocking fish, and all kinds of lake stuff like that. It’s a big party for everyone who lives on this lake. Emma and I served food. We find it fun. Except this time, by the time we were able to eat, the chicken, mostacolli, and salad were all gone L We still had plenty to eat, and the fresh sweet corn was really delicious.

We went over to a neighbor’s house that night. Patti knows I love her margaritas, so she made us a batch. Boy, we downed those too quick!

Sunday, Emma and I spent a couple of hours in the lake. Gotta squeeze out every last bit of summer!

We had chicken wraps with lots of lettuce and tomatoes. And I got a really good cantaloupe this week. You’re never sure what you’re going to get, but this one was exceptional. It was so sweet it was like eating cantaloupe candy.

So, when Monday morning rolled around – I wasn’t exactly jumping out of bed ready to go.

But I just started tackling the ‘to-do’ list and knocked of a couple of major items pretty quick. Now I’m feeling pretty good.

If you’re not using a ‘to-do’ list every day, I guarantee you’re not getting as much done as you could.

And if you’re not eating healthy, you don’t have enough energy to get those things done.

OK, I’m off to get Jan’s gas card and head off to work. See ya later!
