Lose Weight
I was surfing some weight loss sites today to see what kind of information is being peddled out there today.
I had to shake my head. A well known health publication was still blasting banners about cholesterol – even though current reasearch indicates that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease. What’s up with that? Oh yeah – they’re advertiser supported. Duh! Big pharma runs a zillion ads in this publication.
Another ad for a popular information site asks, which is lower in calories – and shows a glass of orange juice, and a glass of pop. Ounce for ounce, juice does have more calories. But your body doesn’t see it that way. This simple comparison does not account for nutrient value, or how your body responds to the chemical additives and unnatural sugars.
That’s why calorie counting as a diet aid is usually misguided. It’s why people are guzzling gallons of zero calorie pop and not losing an ounce. But this very popular information provider gives you the impression that it’s better to drink the pop than the orange juice.
From here, I was led to one of their weight loss blogs. This blog stated ‘weight loss since 2000′, but the picture of the author showed a definitely overweight woman. Should you be taking advice from someone who doesn’t know how to lose weight?
From there, I clicked on a link that led to one of the bogus ‘how I lost weight using 2 free products’ sites. Sigh….
You’ve got to be tired of chasing your tail. Aren’t you glad you found me? Listen. There is one proven way to lose weight and keep it off. It’s called a healthy diet, and exercise. That sounds like a death sentence, doesn’t it? Actually, it’s quite the opposite. It’s your ticket to living life.
See, that same diet that will help you lose weight will also keep your blood pressure down, cut your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and a whole slew of other chronic diseases, protects your vision, keeps you thinking clearly, keeps you looking and feeling younger longer, and in general will keep you out of the nursing home longer.
OK, now do a search for healthy eating. Now that sounds like a death sentence! Vegetable juices, greens, seeds, tofu, soy, Special K. I especially love the raw foods people. Are you serious? I did actually find good articles here - http://www.helpguide.org/life/healthy_eating_diet.htm and here – http://www.helpguide.org/life/healthy_weight_loss.htm
Ellie Krieger’s Healthy Recipes on the Food Network look really good. I have to try that cherry vanilla oatmeal. I wish we could get rid of the big soyjoy commercial – since you and I both know that soy has turned out to be a bad thing.
Have you noticed that I don’t run ads here? You know why? I don’t want ads running here for somethng I do not believe in, and do not endorse. My article might be about how bad soy is, but because the word soy is used – ads for soy products would show up. How confusing is that? On one side I would be talking about how bad it is, and over to the right, there’s links to go buy soy products.
Oh, and you might notice that Ellie uses salt in every recipe. You might be shocked. The truth is, most people do get too much salt, but those of us who do not eat packaged foods may not be getting enough salt. Salt is actually one of the 4 electrolytes that our bodies need to function properly.
Low salt? Low carb? Soy? High protein? Raw foods? Vegan? No wonder everyone just gives up.
The real solution is simple. A balanced diet of real foods.
Of course to do that, you have to make your own food. But don’t get scared here. It’s really easy. Just hop on over to Rebel With a Fork, sign up for your 10 day free trial and try some of the brain dead simple recipes for yourself.
Tasting is believing.
The proof is in the pudding – so to speak…

Anti-Aging
My dad and his wife came down today and offered to take me to dinner after my grueling day at the garage sale where we made pitiful money
We went to Golden Coral – a buffet style place.
My father and I headed off to the salad bar for our first plateful. The similarities ended there. We all made totally different choices when it came to the food items. But we at least started off with a heaping plate of fruits and vegetables.
While we were at dinner, my step-mom said that my dad was not active enough since he retired. She said that he eats a couple pieces of toast in the morning, a lite dinner, and some ice-cream later at night, and he’s gaining weight even though he hardly eats anything.
Well of course – he normally ate a lot throughout the day, and now his body thinks he’s starving. Now it’s saving up in the form of fat. Add to that his inactivity and he can be headed for some real problems real quick.
It’s a very common misconception that if you eat less you’ll lose weight. All you’re really doing is slowing your metabolism down to a crawl.
Eat all day. Make sure to make the bulk of your food choices healthy foods. Get some exercise. It’s really as simple as that.
Another misconception is that as you get older, you naturally gain weight. It’s not the fact that you’re getting older that is making you gain weight. As we get older, we have fewer physical demands. We’re not chasing around small kids. Jobs usually demand less as we get older and more established. And then when we retire, most people are less active than ever. Add to that – once the kids are grown, many people let their heatlhy eating habits slide – right at the time when your health depends on it.
It has little to do with your age. It’s your habits that have changed.
What do you think would happen if you actually ate your 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables and got some exercise everyday?
Well, you could be thin and healthy and full of energy like me. I’m just a couple years away from being able to start getting senior discounts at some places. I have a hard time fathoming that. Me, a senior citizen? No way. It’s not possible!
And then there’s Big Al. He’s an older man who walks around the neighborhood talking everyone’s ear off. I find him very intersting. You always get a history lesson. He talks mostly about jobs he’s worked, starting during Hitler. He was bragging today that he can see without glasses, he can hear just fine, he has 2 arms and legs that work fine. He will be 87 in September. (don’t tell him that I told you how old he really is)
You have a choice.
You don’t have to be a saint, but there are certain rules that you DO have to keep if you want a higher quality of life.
It’s my mission in life to get people healthy. If you’re ready to change to a healthier lifestyle, but you need some help – Find out how you can stay thin, healthy, and full of energy here >>>

Healthy Eating
Spring is a time for rebirth and renewal. The time when we’re looking forward to flowers, and warm weather, and summer fun. But for Mary’s family – flowers are a reminder of the funeral.
Mary died of a stroke at age 47, leaving behind a husband and 3 kids.
What makes this especially sad and infuriating is that it was totally preventable.
Mary was heavy. Somewhere in the 250 – 300 pound range. She had type II diabetes. She had already had numerous heart attacks, and had stints. She knew better.
But they never stopped their fast food on the run lifestyle. They never ate vegetables. One year we were at their house for Thanksgiving dinner, and there was not one vegetable served. Not even corn.
I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but these kids were the worst behaved kids you ever met. Absolutely horrible. We hated being around them. It always made me feel really bad to dislike any child so much.
The kids were all involved in sports. That saved them from weight gain and for 2 of the kids, it has saved their life.
The daughter was in gymnastics, and she was very good – until her career was ended by a serious hip injury. She was the first to have some sort of ball joint replacement. I don’t remember the details anymore, it was so long ago. She’s now going for her nursing degree. She’s wanted to work with premature babies ever since she saw my daughter with her tracheotomy and the equipment we had to carry everywhere we went. She has a very nice boyfriend, and I think she’s going to turn out alright after all.
The oldest son excelled in hockey. His coaches required that he eat vegetables, so Mary would make vegetables for him. But no one else ate them. He’s now semi-pro and doing very well.
The youngest son dropped out of hockey. He is still a problem child. I’m afraid he will always be a problem. He and my daughter were born 10 days apart. We always had birthday cake at Thanksgiving dinner. We keep hoping that something good will happen to help turn him around.
Mary’s husband seems to be going OK. He has his hands full dealing with son #2, and learning how to keep house, and make meals. He didn’t have to deal with any of that before. This guy couldn’t even make himself a sandwich. Seriously. Mary did everything for him.
But now she’s gone. She decided that keeping up the kids lifestyle was more important than buying her meds. And given the fact that her diet was killing her in the first place, she had no chance.
It was over quickly. The stroke completely blew out her brain. She went into a coma and died a couple days later. I remember my friend commenting, “There was no miracle for us today.”
Will this be your story? Or will you live to a ripe old age full of health and energy to live life to its fullest?
How about giving yourself a rebirth and turning your story around today?
Can you imagine being healthy and full of energy to enjoy life?

Diet & Health
I subscribe to a number of health related ezines to keep up to date on current research and such. A few of the newsletters are in the so called ‘healthy eating’ category.
Most of the time I read what they suggest you eat and I think to myself – I’d rather have the heart attack!
Here’s some of the stuff one newsletter suggested – hemp, green shakes for breakfast, alovera gel, sea vegetables, wheat grass, greens powders, and a whole bunch of other powders – I mean what the heck? This is a natural diet? For what species?
Then I read more hogwash like the label on Cool Whip Lite that says recommended by the South Beach Diet. Ever read the ingredients on that one?
Or how about the diet shakes full of sugars?
I know we all want to be trendy and try the hottest new things and be cool. But this is one case where tried and true real natural food is the way to go if you really want to be healthy and thin.
I want to save you a lot of money. Money that you’re throwing away on diets, and superfoods, and health care costs, and prescription drugs, and doctors.
You know, that’s why I got interested in the power of food. I knew I couldn’t afford prescription drugs, and I couldn’t afford to get sick. Every time I had a problem, I would look for a natural way to solve it before I would head off to the doctor. And you know what? I haven’t been to a doctor in many years. I get my readings checked at health fairs and such just to make sure that what I believe is true – and my readings always come back fine – without fasting.
And I know it all sounds a little wacko – but gosh, doesn’t eating hemp sound wacko? Does to me.
At least the way I eat won’t hurt you. It can only help. I can’t say for sure that you’ll be able to get off your insulin. I know people who have, but that doesn’t mean that everyone will. I can’t say that once you’re on blood pressure meds that eating right will get you off of them, but I know for sure, it certainly won’t hurt.
One thing I do know with absolute certainty is that if you eat the way I do, you will lose weight. Period. It’s mathematical.
And if you stop poisoning your body with all these chemicals and start giving it real nutrition, you cut your risk of all diseases.
If you’re interested in learning more about how healthy eating can improve your life – there’s Rebel With a Fork. You will learn how to eat to not only lose weight, but to cut your risk of disease, give you tons of energy to enjoy life, and keep you young.
I suggest that you go over to Rebel With a Fork and bookmark that page. I guarantee the day will come when you will start thinking more seriously about your health, and you’ll want to make sure you can find that page again.
And always do your homework before buying into some hot new claim.
I think I’ll go make some Strawberry-Banana French Toast.

Lose Weight
I was at a meeting today and again, my point was proven.
The skinny people ate a good lunch.
The heavier people didn’t.
That doesn’t seem to make sense, does it? But I see it all the time.
I offered the girl next to me some of my lunch – which she glady accepted. She said she was going out for dinner tonight, so she didn’t want to eat too much.
So many people seem to believe that if you only eat one meal, that you’ll lose weight. I absolutely guarantee you won’t.
People think that skinny people can eat what ever they want, and that’s true to an extent. But it’s what they eat, when they eat, and how they compensate for those ‘dinners out’ that makes all the difference.
In other words, if a skinny person started eating like a fat person, even thought it would probably not be any more calories than they normally eat, they would get fat. Am I making sense here?
So say you want to lose weight. Starting tomorrow – eat 3 full meals and 2 snacks throughout the day. That’s right. Eat 5 times a day. You will change how your metabolism burns the food.
OK, one bit about calories. You can’t eat 1000 or more calories at every sitting. That’s just common sense, right? I’m not telling you to load up on fast food 3 times a day and eat hostess cupcakes for snacks. A snack can be fruit, or yogurt, or baked crackers and cheese, or peanut butter…
Oh sure, there’s more to it than just that. But I can’t put the whole book up here on the blog.
Head over to the Rebel With a Fork Blog and Grab a copy of the new Skinny Living Handbook and get all the tips you’ll ever need to live like a skinny person.
