The first point to remember is that the same diet that’s good for your heart, is also good for preventing cancer, diabetes, and helps you maintain a healthy weight without dieting. Here’s a review of the basics -

Eat at constant intervals throughout the day to keep blood sugar levels even and metabolism humming.

Essential fatty acids – Omega 3s, from fish or fish oil, and Vitamin E.

5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

Protein up to 6 oz. a day

Fiber

Calcium

At least a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Water

½ hour of physical activity everyday.

Cut back on saturated fats.

Cut back on sugars.

Cut out trans-fats and chemicals.

Take smaller bites.

Slow down and chew your food.

Get some unexposed sunlight everyday, or use a safe tanning bed, or take vitamin D supplements.

Make sure to get enough sleep. This is the time that your body uses to repair itself. When you don't get enough sleep, you'll eat more to provide the energy you should have from getting enough rest.

You don't need to give up your favorite foods. You don't have to give up red meat, pizza, candy, ice cream, or butter. Use common sense and eat these types of foods in moderation. As long as you eat healthy most of the time, having these forbidden foods once in a while won't hurt you.

What you DO want to give up are as many packaged foods full of chemicals as you humanly can, and pop.

Don't make healthy eating harder than it really is. Follow these rules and you'll find that you don't have to be a saint to be thin and healthy.
