What it does-

Niacin is essential for your digestive system, circulation, skin, and nerves. It is also important for the conversion of food to energy. It also helps your body balance hormones and insulin.

Niacin deficiency is being linked to more diseases such as Alzheimer’s and heart disease. But this is a double edge sword. Large doses are very dangerous and can cause liver damage, peptic ulcers, and skin rashes.

Niacin is being used by many people to help detoxify the body. Niacin therapy is sometimes used to control very high cholesterol – but should only be done under strict Doctor’s supervision. Do not try high dosage supplementation on your own – stick with what’s in your multi vitamin. But you can safely add foods containing niacin to your diet, and take a good multi-vitamin everyday.

Where to get it –

Fortified breads, cereals and dairy products, chicken, eggs, figs, fish, liver, meats, mushrooms, nuts, peanuts, potato, poultry, prunes, seeds, and tomatoes.
