The Magic Number 7
Hi,
You know, all through history – the number 7 has had
major significance. In the bible, it is always 7 years of
this or that, or 7 times. OK, except for those couple of
times when it was 40, but we don’t even want to think
about those right now, do we? I sure don’t.
It is said that life goes in 7 year cycles. In the bible, and
in law (at least it used to be) you could have your debts
forgiven every 7 years.
I went through 7 years of hell. I lost a good job where I
was making a decent living. The industry took a dive,
and jobs like mine were never to be had again. Here I
was, over 40 and basically unmarketable. Too old, too
specialized, too experienced, too expensive. I lost every-
thing.
I worked odd jobs to try and keep a roof over our heads
and food on the table. I would work on the computer
before and after work trying to break into interent
marketing. Sleeping was a luxury that I could not
afford.
During that time – the stress was unrelenting. 7 years
of constant stress. My blood pressure was high. My
vision was getting worse. Sometimes my heart would
be pounding out of my chest. But I couldn’t afford
doctors or drugs even with insurance. I made too
much money for assistance, yet not enough to pay
basic bills. That’s called the working poor, if you
haven’t heard that term before. I made a vow
that if I ever got out of that hell, I would help
anyone who was willing to work at it get out too.
The only thing that was keeping me from having a
massive heart attack was eating right and getting
exercise.
So, here’s where the number 7 comes in again.
See, 5 servings of fruits and vegetables is just
enough to keep your body from worsing – just
maintaining your current condition. Every
serving over 5 actually helps to start healing you.
And believe me, I know how hard it is to make
yourself get the 5 somedays. And somedays,
you just don’t care.
But whatever the circumstance is in your life
today – it is temporary. The damage you’re
doing to your body when you don’t eat right
is not.
Think about if you do happen to live to be
say – 80. What will the quality of your life be?
Think about that next time you want to hit
the nearest drive-thru.
We’ll talk again soon -
Carole
P.S. I don’t want you to think that fruits and
vegetables are all you need. They’re not. You
need other things too – even fats and salt
(and chocolate?)
