Preparing for the New Year. No its not late

English: How clean is your house? Next door to...

What a wild ride the holidays were this year with all those long weekends! I hope you had plenty of time to enjoy the season this year.

Even though flu attacked half the family – we still had very nice holidays. Lots of good eating.

New Years Day ends the holiday season. Now its time to get back on track.

Get the house cleaned up. The weather was pretty crummy today. Since I had no intention of venturing out – I’ve got the upstairs un-Christmased, and pretty well cleaned up. Whatever I missed with be taken care of in my weekly routines. I’ve still got the downstairs to do though…

Get back to a healthy diet It was a nice break from salads, and now they are tasting good again. I don’t want to see turkey for a year. Enough already! And I’ve had my fill of cookies and pumpkin pie. Normal stuff sounds pretty good about now. Italian would be good, don’t you think? With a big salad and some wine…

And once you’ve got all the holiday stuff behind you – its time to start working on your goals for this year.

I don’t like to call them resolutions. We never stick to resolutions. But we do work on goals. Maybe because goals is instilled in us from a young age? So, instead of resolving to lose weight, make a goal to lose so many pounds.

If losing weight is one of your goals this year, I’ve written a new free report over at Rebel With a Fork that should helpHow to permanently lose weight and live a healthy, energy filled life >>>

For me, my goal is health related. The stress, long hours, a desk job, not having the dog to walk, lack of exercise, and did I mention the stress? Something’s gotta give or I’m gonna die. No, seriously – I am concerned.

I’ve got to get more exercise, and I have to find ways to relieve some of the stress. I’m starting the PACE program. I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’m also finding that the monthly format for Rebel with a Fork is stressful. For the moment, Rebel With a Fork will be an ebook on steroids. I’ll still be updating – but I won’t be trying to do big features every month. It will be good for both of us.

How will it be good for you?

During my little hiatus, you can get a lifetime membership for just $47. If you are currently a member, I’ll be contacting you before your next billing about how to change over.

I might try some yoga too. We’ll see.

I have business goals too, but for right now, I’ve got to get back in balance and quit driving myself so hard.

And I need to get to bed. I’m working tomorrow – which is probably today by the time you’re reading this. Have some fun for me today, OK?

How about you? Do you have any goals you’d like to share?

Serving Drinks Tonight? Don’t Get Sued

Posted under Holidays

Happy new year

If you are having a party, please remember that most states now have laws that may make you liable if your guests have too much to drink and get in an accident or cause harm, or destroy property.

Yes, its true. In our lawsuit crazy, finger-pointing, its always someone else’s fault society – you get blamed if they choose to drink too much at your house.

It’s not like you put a funnel in their mouth and you’re pouring it down their throat for heavens sake!

Regardless, if they are drinking at your house – you are responsible.

Don’t let your guests drive drunk.

Put them in a cab, or have a sober guest drive them home, or put them up overnight.

If you are going out and you will be drinking, make plans ahead of time to either stay overnight or get home safely without driving yourself. Most large cities have free or very cheap cab rides, buses or trains. Most organized parties at hotels and restaurants have options for staying overnight.

Even if you’re the sober one, driving can be a challenge tonight with all the crazies out there. Be extra cautious. They sometimes come out of nowhere.

In our area, there have been a lot of advertisements for those who want to go out earlier and be home by midnight. (For those who don’t want to miss Dick Clark and Lady Gaga.)

Whatever you are doing – be safe – and Have a Very Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas Flu

Posted under Holidays

I hope you are having a great Christmas!

Our dinner is down to 4 people. A really nasty flu has been going around since the graduation party last weekend and wiped out half the family. They had their flu shots.

But, we baked our cookies and took a ham dinner over for my other sister who is laid up after having knee surgery. It was yummy.

They’ve been having problems with their dog getting into the garbage. They have just a plastic can, and they had taken the lid off because it was too much of a bother. I got them a more solid can with a motion detected lid. You wave your hand over the lid and it opens. Very cool. They loved it. Hopefully it solves their problem!

We got nice soft, warm robes. Emma already has hers on. I’ll be following soon.

I have a 24 lb. turkey for 4 people. I have to cook it. We’ll eat another great dinner, and pack some away in the freezer for later. It will still be a nice day. Its too bad that so many of us are down for the count. We’ll  have to try again maybe next month.

Any way, I just wanted to drop you a note and wish you a Very Merry Christmas with all the trimmings. Have a wonderful day!

The magic cookies are in the oven

Posted under Holidays

That’s right, the first batch of magic Christmas cookies are in the oven. You have to try these just to see what happens. They will go to my sister’s house tomorrow. A ham is cooked. The cranberry sauce is made. The pumpkin pie is waiting for my brother in law.

We took the dog for a walk. It was cold, but it flet good. Now, we’re having a glass of chocolate wine and getting ready to hit the sack Tomorrow is another busy day! More cookies to bake, and a few presents to get before the official celebrations start.

Its tiring, but fun. I wish life felt like this all of the time.

OK, maybe not. We’d all be exhausted. But it’s fun while it lasts.

And you know,  what makes it really special is that we’re focused on making others happy.

There’s got to be a way to carry that over throughout the year, don’t ya think? We’ll have to work on that.

I hope you’re having fun preparing for your holiday festivities.

Chocolate

I’m really sorry I’ve not been posting much in the way of tips lately. I’m still working a lot and trying to juggle a lot of balls, just like you.

But, if you need something – I’m here.

Ask for a tip or a recipe and I’ll answer.

As I’m finishing up my gift ideas, here’s a few more things I’ve come up with -

Chocolate wine to go with those handmade chocolates or home baked cookies.

Put together the dry ingredients for No Box Pancakes with instructions and a bottle of pure maple syrup. If they’ve really been good you can include some good coffee and some oranges.

A romantic night basket with massage oils and candles and such for the newly wed couple. Maybe include a bottle of nice wine… (hey, they’re married!)

Restaurant.com is always a hit. My niece says to be sure to check for online coupons. (she’s a mad couponer!)

These are in addition to the ideas in Gifts from the Hearth

If you need something from me, be sure to let me know in the comments. I get notified everytime a new comment is posted – and I’ll be sure to answer either in a new post, or by email.
