More Detailed Info On Soy

Just found a great article outlining all the bad things about soy. It also has a link leading to info on genetically modified foods – another really scary subject.
Here’s another great resource on the dangers of soy >>>
You can be naturally thin, healthy, and full of energy. Wouldn’t that make this summer a whole lot more fun? And you can do it eating food that actually tastes good. Imagine that! Become a Rebel With a Fork today!

Hydroxycut Recall
The FDA issued a warning today to diets and body-builders to not take Hydroxycut.
It seems that Hydroxycut is linked to liver damage, and one death. You can read the details here – http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090502/ap_on_he_me/us_med_diet_pill_recall
Personally, I don’t trust any hyped up pharmaceutical claims. Diet pills have always been, and will probably always be, the most dangerous things on the market. They can slap any old concoction together and call it a miracle weight loss and people will buy it by the truckload – never questioning it.
These people who seel all this stuff should be jailed.
Or should the people buying all this stuff be jailed for stupidity? I mean, if no one buys, these guys don’t have a reason to exist – do they? I just shake my head everytime another one of these stories surface.

What to eat to cut risk of swine flu
With the swine flu spreading around the world, you might be wondering if there is anything you can do to protect you and your family.
There are common sense preventatative measures that you can take that I talked about in yesterday’s post.
And you can help stop the spread of this flu by staying home if you are sick (except for trips to the doctor.)
There are also a number of foods and vitamins that will help you prevent the flu, or help you reduce the effects of the symptoms and the duration of your attack should you get the flu:
Foods that strengthen your immune system -
Almonds, apricots, broccoli, canteloupe, carrots, cashews, celery, chicken, chocolate, citrus fruits, garlic, dark greens, eggs, fruits, garlic, green tea, mango, meat, mushrooms, onion, peaches, peanuts, pineapple, pumpkin, spinach, squash, sweet potato, tomato, tomato products, walnuts, watermelon.
Essential nutrients – Anti-oxidants (especially vitamins C & E and lycopene), Vitamin A, Vitamin D (get out in the sun a little!), Omega 3s, folate, protein, magnesium, and zinc.
It is vitally important to get exercise and reduce stress. Exercise reduces stress, so the two go hand in hand. Breathing exercises and Yoga help too.
Foods that act as anti-virals-
Apple, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, cayenne, garlic, herbs, honey, lemon, mustard, onion, plums, raspberries.
Foods that help you reduce your flu symptoms and duration –
Garlic, Echinacea, Cayenne pepper, Lemon juice (fresh), Tomato Juice, Orange juice, Vitamin C, Ginger, Green tea, Chicken Soup.
Avoid Dairy
Use steam or humidifier.
If you know you have been exposed to flu, don’t wait for symptoms. Start your attack right away – eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking orange juice and green tea, and taking your vitamins – especially vitamin C, vitamin D, and Zinc. It’s no coincidence that flu season starts when we have less exposure to sunlight. Vitamin D is very important.
And please, if you are feeling sick – stay home. Do not go to school, or to work, or to the mall.

The Flu Caught Round the World
Image by Getty Images via Daylife
The Swine flu continues to make headlines as people in the US, Europe, Canada and New Zeland have been infected.
For some reason, the cases outside of Mexico have been mild and no one outside of Mexico has been seriously ill or died.
And it’s driving the price of oil down. Hey, there’s good and bad in everything, right?
Right now, our best offense is a good defense.
Eat your 5-9, or more servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
Take your vitamins.
Get enough sleep.
Get 30 minutes of exercise a day. That doesn’t mean you have to go to the gym. Just move your body for 30 minutes a day. Walk, vacuum, dance…
Do not get chilled. We are in a flucuating weather pattern where you can easily get wet and cold. That lowers your immune response. Don’t worry about looking cool right now. Stay warm and dry.
Stay at least 5 feet away from anyone with sniffles and coughs.
Wash your hands often.
Change your hand towels daily.
Wipe down kitchen counters, bath room, and door knobs to help prevent the spread of germs.
Use a disinfectant wipe on telephones and keyboards.
If you feel sick – STAY HOME!
In today’s world its a badge of honor to go to work no matter how sick your are. That’s crazy, and that’s how this stuff spreads. Not to mention that it takes you longer to recover that way.
Just use common sense.
I’m not saying to be overly concerned, but a little extra caution won’t hurt. Don’t you agree?

Concerns about Swine Flu
I’ve been reading up on this swine flu. Is this unbelieveable? Like something out of some b-rate horror movie, isn’t it? A pig virus, a bird virus, and a human virus, all melded into one. How can that possibly be?
How concerned do we need to be? No one knows yet. For most people its just another case of flu. Of course, this one has the possilbility of becoming a global outbreak. Let’s just shut the world down for 2 weeks while everyone recovers.
Is there anything you can do to protect yourself? Yes, there is.
Build up your immune system.
How do you do that?
A healthy diet. Losts of fruits and vegeables, chicken and fish, take your vitamins, get exercise, get enough sleep.
“Isn’t that what you tell us to do to lose weight, avoid diabetes, heart disease, and cancer?”
Yep. Sure is.
How do you like that?
You might want to consider it.

And remember – this is a virus. Antibiotics do not work on viruses.
