American Farmers Need Your Help
On January 31, family farmers will take part in the first phase of a court case filed to protect farmers from genetic trespass by Monsanto’s GMO seed, which contaminates organic and non-GMO farmer’s crops and opens them up to abusive lawsuits. In the past two decades, Monsanto’s seed monopoly has grown so powerful that they control the genetics of nearly 90% of five major commodity crops including corn, soybeans, cotton, canola and sugar beets.
In many cases farmers are forced to stop growing certain organic and conventional crops to avoid genetic contamination and potential lawsuits. Between 1997 and 2010, Monsanto admits to filing 144 lawsuits against America’s family farmers, while settling another 700 out of court for undisclosed amounts. Due to these aggressive lawsuits, Monsanto has created an atmosphere of fear in rural America and driven dozens of farmers into bankruptcy.

the 99 percent
Are you watching the 99% movement? If you don’t know about it, the concept is simple – we the people are the 99%. Then there’s the 1% – the richest of the rich, who don’t pay their fair share of taxes.
The 99% face cuts in medicare, unemployment, food stamps, etc. so the 1% still don’t have to pay up.
This issue isn’t about democrat vs republican. Its about fairness, and reminding our government who they really work for.
Here’s a short video about the 99% march from New York City to Washington DC

fun fast dinner
I made a great cheeseburger last night and I thought about you rushing around today.
How much fun would it be to set up a hamburger & salad bar and let everyone make their own creations?
All you have to do is put a bunch of stuff in bowls.
Try onions, chopped olives, chopped tomatoes, different cheeses, pickles, lettuce, onions, broccoli, baby carrots, avocado, salsa, barbecue sauce, various salad dressings, croutons ….
My cheeseburger had barbecue sauce, mustard, chopped green olives, and red onion. It was delicious.

Getting up early can kill you
I knew it. Getting up early was bad for my body. I even took a later shift at work because no matter what, I don’t do well when I have to get up really early. I figured it was just my body clock – but according to a NewsMaxHealth article today, getting up too early is bad for you.
“Waking up early may increase your risk of heart attack and stroke, a study in Japan shows.
A one-hour advance in the wake-up time of study participants increased the risk of hardening of the arteries by 1.2 times even without a change in sleep duration, according to the results reported by Mayuko Kadono at Kyoto Prefectural University. The study, which analyzed 3,066 healthy adults averaging 57.2 years old, also found people who had difficulty falling or maintaining sleep at night had a higher prevalence of hypertension.
The analysis underscores Kadono’s previous study that showed links between vascular dysfunction and waking up before 5 a.m. Cardiovascular disease, which includes heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure, may kill 23.6 million people by 2030, rising from 17.3 million in 2008, according to the World Health Organization.
Earlier bedtimes and earlier wake-up times “had a larger influence on vascular condition than sleep duration,” Kadono, an endocrinologist, said in an interview. “People generally go to bed earlier and get up earlier as they age. Age-associated changes of rhythm and sleep forms might influence vascular condition.”

Something to be said for being crazy
This week, I worked 51.6 hours, even with Labor Day off. Today was my day of rest. So – what did I do?
I started removing wallpaper.
“Carole – are you crazy?”
Now, don’t get me wrong. I did sleep until I was ready to get up. I did lounge around on the beach for a couple of hours. I got the grocery shopping and laundry done. So, I started puttering. I didn’t intend to kill myself finishing the job in one day. I’m not that crazy! I just got it started.
Now most people would plop in front of the TV and not move. But I don’t know one single person who sits in front of the TV eating potato chips who is happy with their life.
I’m rarely bored or lonely. My life is very full. With this job – a little too full. I like to have more balance in my life. My life is seriously out of balance right now, and I don’t like it one little bit – but busy season will pass, and my kitchen will be half done. Writing the new decorating ebook has inspired me to get a few more things done around here. OK, that and a tree landing on my house. Hopefully the new windows will be here soon. Which will present another decorating dilemma. Sigh… one at a time…
And I’m not telling you this to brag. I am far from perfect. There are a bunch of other things I should have done instead of pulling down wallpaper.
I’m telling yout this in the hopes that it will inspire you to get off your duff and do things you like to do. Get out and live life.
Let people look at you and ask -”are you crazy?”
And tell them yes indeed!
