Got Beef?
Our Thanksgiving was wonderful – full of family and great food. I am thankful that everyone was able to come, and that all of the food turned out great. But I’ll tell you what …
I don’t want to see poultry. Nothing with wings of any kind.
I don’t want to see another Pumpkin until next September. I am totally pumpkined out. Someone gave me more pumpkins. I roasted and pureed them and threw it in the freezer. I have a bag of pumpkin seeds. No More Pumpkin!
Potatoes I’m not that big on potatoes in the first place, and I have had my fill. Enough already!
I want beef, pasta, and maybe even a pizza. Pot roast? Steak Dijon? Oh, and lots of salad.
I hope that your Thanksgiving was great – and that you have a great week ahead.

Food Safety, or Food Mafia?
Does it bother you that the government can make it illegal to save your own seeds and grow them next year?
Does it strike fear in your heart to know that provisions like these are to be enforced by Homeland Security?
That’s right – armed forces can come down upon your home for growing a garden.
Why?
Because in this down economy – people are taking to producing their own food, and selling the surplus. That directly digs into big company profits.
Don’t think for a minute that the food safety bill is for your safety.
We thought we upset the applecart last week, didn’t we? But the food safety bill is set to move forward Wednesday.
Please take a few minutes and head over to my post at Rebel With a Fork for more information.
I can’t stress how important this is to all of you.
Ask anyone who has come from a communist country and watch the fear in their eyes. We’re not kidding around here.

Many people claimed that we would suffer a horrible loss of jobs when the Fair Trade Act was passed. “Oh no, that would never happen” they said…

Vote Anyway
We’ve been bombarded with negative campaign ads on TV, in our mailbox, and in our email.
Does anyone have anything to say about what they will do? Does anyone actually serve the people anymore? Most of what I’ve seen are politicans who are owned by big business.
I know it feels like a big job to try to determine who is going to be the lesser of two evils. In my area, I would vote for the independant guy, but that’s like throwing your vote away. It is so frustrating.
I got an email from Presidnet Obama thatmade a few statements that raised my eyebrows – like “Private employers and small businesses have created jobs nine months in a row.” Really? That would explain why many on my street are still out of work after a year or longer, and I see people almost everyday still losing jobs.
And the only people who seem happy with helath care reform so far are the kids who get to stay on their parents policies. It hasn’t done much for those with preexisting conditions other than drive up prices to where they can’t afford it anyway. Yeah, that worked.
I understand that businesses are in business to make a profit, but my gosh – how much profit do you need? And is it necessary to steam roll people at all costs to secure your profits? Morals? Ethics? Humanity? No, these days everything is centered around greed.
Yes, it’s frustrating. But you have to get out there tomorrow and have your voice heard. Even if its just to say – yeah, I see progress and I’m happy, or you’ve had enough time and it ain’t happening.
I’m not making any recommendations or predictions because frankly – I don’t know what the right choice is right now. There are some who I think need to be booted. Others, the choice is as clear as mud.
I know many are confused. I have heard more talk about this election I think than any other. Everyone seems frustrated.
Like I said, even if the best you can do is vote for the track we’re on, or changing tracks – get out there and make a choice. And may God help us all…
How’s that for voter optimism?

Common Sense Wake-Up Call!

Were you alive in 1970?
How many obese people did you know?
Pretty much the fat lady at the circus, and Mama Cass, right? You were hard pressed to find any clothing larger than a size 16.
How many people had diabetes?
It was old age diabetes back then.
Did you know anyone with cancer?
Did people in their 30s or 40s have high blood pressure?
It wasn’t until people started eating all this garbage chemically filled fake food that all these problems started.
Now, you can’t buy a piece of regular chicken without getting some sort of chemicals. Even if you buy hormone and anti-biotic free, they’ve still been fed pesticide resistant feed.
And your government – the people elected to serve and protect you want to make it so that the only food available to you will come from commercial farms.
Where do most of the problems come from?
Commercial farms.
Have you seen any of the videos? I think it’s a crime to let anyone eat food that comes from these conditions.
Yet, your government says that this is the best way to make food safe.
All they see is the ability to make more food faster and cheaper. But what is the true cost?
Cancer
Obesity
Diabetes
Heart Disease
ADD
Arthritis
Depression
All of these are skyrocketing – and it no longer just affects the elderly.
What can you do?
First – hop over right now and take action to let your Senators know that you are against this.
Second – Stop Feeding Your Family This Crap!
This is a public service message from Rebel With a Fork.
Pass it on

Excuse Me? Who controls food safety?
Here is an exerpt from an atricle at the Washington Post on the Delay of the Food Safety Act that you should read carefully -
“Dingell wrote the House bill, which would grant vast new authorities to the Food and Drug Administration and mark the first serious reform of food safety laws in 70 years. The measure was headed for easy passage in Senate until the spring, when Feinstein said she wanted to add language that would ban a controversial chemical, bisphenol A or BPA, from food packaging.
Feinstein’s BPA proposal won applause from some public health groups but sparked immediate protest from the chemical industry, food manufacturers and major business interests, who pledged to withdraw their support for the bill if it included a ban on BPA.
BPA has been linked in animal studies to cancer, reproductive problems and other disorders. The chemical has been used in commercial products since the 1950s and is found in thousands of items from sunglasses to compact discs. But researchers are most concerned about BPA in food packaging because it is found to leach from the packaging into food and beverages. BPA has been detected in the urine of 93 percent of the U.S. population, according to estimates by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Some scientists believe that BPA, a synthetic form of estrogen, could affect the endocrine system and disrupt child development.
Did you notice anything odd here? OK, I bolded it to give you a clue…
Big industry will withdraw thier support of the bill?
Excuse me?
Who is running this country?
It is big industry’s job to follow the rules – not make them. At least that’s what I remember from high school social studies. Seems to me the government is supposed to by by the people, for the people. Anyone remember that line?
The history of the house bill that passed last year is interesting too -
From GovTrack.us -
Jul 29, 2009: This bill failed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill, needing a two-thirds majority. This usually occurs for non-controversial legislation. The totals were 280 Ayes, 150 Nays, 3 Present/Not Voting. Vote Details.
Jul 30, 2009: This bill passed in the House of Representatives by roll call vote. The totals were 283 Ayes, 142 Nays, 8 Present/Not Voting. Vote Details.
Despite Dr. Rima’s rantings, the house bill (which is HR 2749, not HR 1279) doesn’t look all that terrible. It does exempt individuals, farmers, and fishermen. I’m not sure how they separate small commercial farms from industrial farms, or just where they draw the line. I haven’t read the entire bill.
I still think you should take the time to let your Senators know that you are concerned. I know Dr. Rima’s style is a bit overboard, but she is on a mission! You can’t deny that. And it is absolutely true that if Congress doesn’t think we’re watching, they will quietly pass whatever big industry wants. We have to let them know we’re watching.
The House Bill requires the FDA to determine the safety standards. If they do as well with food as they have with drugs, we’re in trouble.
This is not to say that the food safety system doesn’t need to be overhauled. It does. But to hand our food safety over to the FDA who has a corrupt history and supports big industry first, and our health last is not a very good idea, don’t you agree?
And the FDA’s preferred methods of making food safe will only further decrease the nutrient value. And as you saw above, the commerical industries will have too much say in how that is accomplished.
At least at this point, our right to buy locally grown and/or raised food seems to be preserved. I don’t trust the commercial food or drug industries, or our agencies that regulate them. I want my right to not consume them, to be able to buy my food from local farmers, or grow it myself to be protected. I really am a Rebel With a Fork
And yes, BPA should be banned!
So should GMO’s.
The FDA should be dismantled and a new agency formed that actually does the job of protecting us. Let those high paid scientists tell us what they really think instead of the FDA gagging them.
If big industry doesn’t like the fact that they have to stop killing us – that’s tough!
Just my 2 cents…
Has any of this changed the way you shop or eat?
Have you taken any ‘mouse warrior’ action on these bills?
Do you find the timing of the egg crisis to be a little suspect? Oh, don’t look so shocked. Wouldn’t be the first time. Watch how fast this bill moves now.
