Humans are all the same

Posted under Motivational

Funny thing about being a mother. You can say something until you’re blue in the face, but you have no credibility until someone else says it too. Ever notice that?

OK, I guess it happens to everyone.

Like yesterday – I had this family from Venezuela shopping in the store. I don’t understand a lot of Spanish, but I understood enough to catch on to what was going on. Only the husband spoke English.

The mother had tried on a dress that was a little too tight. She was asking her son and her husband how it looked. The son said it looked awful. The husband said it was OK. She liked it. She was going to buy it regardless.

The husband asked me what I thought. I said it would look ok if she wore a slimmer with it. He told her I said it looked bad.

The son said I told you it looked bad. You don’t believe me until the Senora says so?

I had to laugh.

We get a lot of international business at this mall. Which totally dumbfounds me – the locals all think the mall pretty much sucks. But anyway…

You know, certain cultures might have certain quirks that drive us crazy – but underneath it all, as human beings – we’re really all pretty much the same.

I don’t think I’ve seen a single culture where teenage and twenty something daughters don’t get frustrated with their mothers. The young girls want their mothers to dress like them – but mothers understand that it doesn’t look right for them to be dressed like their daughters. It’s world-wide.

Another thing I’ve noticed lately is that the US has definitely lost the edge on pretty. The typical American look is overweight, wearing sloppy clothes, talking on a cell phone, or eating.

I’ve been amazed at how many beautiful girls I’ve seen from all over the world - India, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Russia, Poland, Peru…

We sometimes get stuck in the place where we think we’re better than anyone else. I was guilty of that too, until I lost my good paying job and the universe showed me that I was no better, and was maybe a lot worse than many.

As uncomfortable as hard times may be, they always deliver grand lessons and will make us better people if we choose to learn from them.

So, there’s your Monday motivational!

Thin or Fit?

Posted under Diet & Health

If you had to choose, would you rather be thin or fit?

OK, OK, I know, everyone wants to be thin, fit, healthy, full of energy and beautiful. But if you had to choose one or the other - thin or fit - which would you choose?

Most people would choose thin, right?

But recent studies show that if you want to live longer, fit is your better choice.

The funny thing is, once you start getting fit, you lose some weight, even by accident.

So, if you can’t seem to muster up the motivation to both make a healthy meal and take a walk – at least take a walk.

Walking is the quickest, easiest way to start getting fit. And this time of year, it’s enjoyable exercise. And other than a decent fitting pair of gym shoes, it doesn’t cost you a thing.

Other studies have shown that if you take fish oil before you exercise, it revs up your metabolism and helps you burn more calories. Plain old walking helps decrease your risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancers, and relieves stress and depression.

Sometimes I walk with my daughter or a friend and talk. Other times I just run into people and talk along the way. And still other times, I just use the opportunity to clear my head and de-stress.

I’ve had regular mall walkers tell me that they had to reduce their walking because they lost too much weight. I don’t have that option. My dog needs to be walked at least a mile a day. I’m not always happy about that, let me tell you. If you can’t muster up the motivation on your own – get a dog!

Once you start feeling some results, you might just want to start changing your diet a little and take things to the next level.

Listen, I put in a 10 ½ hour day at work, stopped at the store on the way home, grabbed a quick bite to eat, walked the dog, and now I’m writing to you. I’ve been on the go since 7 this morning. For over 15 hours, I’ve barely had a chance to sit down.

Can you keep up?

Energy is a use it or lose it sort of asset. The more you use, the more you’ll have. And you’ll cut your risk of ‘lifestyle diseases’, you’ll lose weight, look better, and feel better - and it won’t cost you a thing. How can you pass up a deal like that?

Consider this a little motherly kick in the butt ;-)

Have a great week!

People want healthy food

Posted under Diet & Health

“We’ve called this emergency meeting today because it seems that some people are waking up and want more real food! We have to find ways to create more real food!”

“Ok. Let’s spray the fruits and vegetables with all kinds of chemicals to keep bugs away, and make them look good until people buy them.”

“Is that good for them?”

“Who cares? We’re here to make money, remember? Keep that straight if you want to keep your job bucko.”

“What about this rotating crops thing? That takes too much time.”

“Right, we have to stop that.”

“What if people find out that the soil is completely void of any nutrients?”

“We’ll tell them that we’ve added vitamins, and they’ll pay even more!”

“Brilliant!”

“But how do we make it taste like something?”

“Easy, sell ‘em dressings and sauces and publish all kinds of “healthy eating” recipes using our products. They want to believe that adding tomatoes to mac & cheese makes it healthy. We give ‘em what they want. We aim to please ;-)

“Now, we’ve got to convince the government.”

“And we have to strongly suggest that it will kill the whole economy if people find out they could get healthy and get out of ‘The System. Those vitamin pushers are really getting to be troublesome. We’ve got to stop them.”

“Right! We can’t afford for people to find out that all they have to do is quit eating our food and eat real food that they can get locally and cook up really quick, take some vitamins, get some exercise and get enough sleep. We’ll all be in the poor house!”

“And that cancer vaccine, boy that was a streak of genius! I can’t believe people fell for that one! I’m glad I’ll be retired before the shit hits the fan on that one!”

“Now I’m going home and pick my salad out of my garden and cook up some grass fed steaks and get some sleep.”

“Want to take home a sample?”

“No Way! I’m not touching that stuff!”

(laughter erupts) “ha, ha. Have a good night.”

——————————-

You might be wondering – why all the melodrama?

I want you to think about it the next time you go to put a forkful of artificially flavored chemicals into your mouth. I want you to go look at the label and see how much recognizable food is listed.

I want you to question a healthy recipe when the picture of the author shows someone weighing just under 200 pounds.

I want you to understand that most health problems are caused by a lack of nutrition.

But on the other hand, I don’t want you to be subjected to the extremists on the other side. In my opinion, they are just as dangerous.

I want you to ask yourself questions when you read a health article. Why is there suddenly all this gluten sensitivity? Why do so many people have type II diabetes? Why did Dr. Atkins die of heart disease?

Yes, I want you to THINK!

Listen, it’s not the ice cream and donuts that’s going to kill you. Within reason, OK? It’s all the fake packaged foods and the soda pop – diet and regular. You don’t have to be a saint, but you do have to remove the killer foods from your diet and replace them with super foods. Plain old fresh vegetables and fruits, lean meats, chicken, fish, you know, normal food. The stuff people were eating before everyone got fat and sick.

I want you to have a happy healthy long life, and that’s just not going to happen if you keep eating the typical American diet.

The events listed in the beginning posts about “The System” are real. Take a good look at the people around you everyday and you’ll see that it’s true. How many people do you know that are obese? Have diabetes? High blood pressure? Cancer?

Now, how many people do you know that take no meds?

So, I hope this bit of melodrama will stick in the recesses of your brain, and you’ll stop and think about what you’re eating a little more often.

Are You Caught in “The System”

Posted under Diet & Health, Misc. Thoughts

It starts in the lab.

People want foods that are easy to prepare, and cheap. But to create a packaged real food would be nearly impossible. So they create foods using chemicals. These chemical ‘foods’ are cheap to manufacture.

They load these fake foods with corn syrup and salt to make them taste better. Their taste buds become used to these foreign flavors after a while. In your mind, you think you’ve eaten good food. But your body? As the old saying goes, you can’t fool mother nature.

Your body starts to break down. It has to. No living creature was ever meant to eat these foreign substances. Not one. Not dogs, cats, fish, birds, cows, chickens, or humans.

People start to get lethargic and lazy. There’s no fuel to keep the body running. Energy diminishes to the point where people can barely make it through the day. They are fatigued and depressed.

People begin to get fat. They have to. It’s only natural. They’re eating foods filled with corn syrup, and not getting exercise because they have no energy or motivation to do anything.

Having no energy, people sit in front of the TV or the Internet, or play video games – where the system can continually fill their minds with whatever they want them to think.

Large numbers of people begin to get sick.

The pharmaceutical industry comes to the rescue!

“Don’t you worry about a thing, we’ve got a pill to solve every problem.”

“Come one, come all! We’ve got pills to cure your depression, give you energy, help you lose weight, and relieve the symptoms of any illness you have developed!”

But that doesn’t work for long. The pills only treat symptoms – they don’t cure the problems. They can’t. The problems are caused by lack of nutrition. You’ve heard of drug-resistant bacteria, super-bugs, and now drug-resistant hypertension, right? Yep, even the blood pressure meds aren’t working anymore. Drugs don’t cure the problem, they only mask it.

Next people are shuffled into medical ‘treatments’, stints, bypasses, transplants, chemo, radiation…

Eventually people will die, either from the original disease, or the ‘treatments’ themselves. But that’s OK with the system. It was never about people. The system is only in place to make money. Period. And now they’ve got the kids in their clutches.

The cycle continues.

Tune in tomorrow for crisis in the boardroom.

I Have a Big Idea

Posted under Diet & Health

Maybe it’s more like a wish.

You see, I know for a fact that we can stop these epidemics –

Obesity

High Blood Pressure

Clogged Arteries

Heart Disease

Type II Diabetes

Cancer

And we can slow down aging related problems –

Loss of vision

Loss of mental clarity

Decreasing bone density

Fading good looks

Energy and mobility problems

Depression

Now here’s my big idea (wish?)

What if…

People all over the world started to live a healthier lifestyle?

People stopped getting diseases?

People stopped needing as many expensive prescription drugs?

People started enjoying a family dinner, cooking, conversation, and building strong relationships with their kids? Instead of waiting for a holiday, they took time to connect with family over real dinners almost every day?

Instead of plopping down in front of the TV to watch someone else’s version of life – people got out and actually lived life?

People had the vibrant health and energy to play, or work to achieve goals, or help others?

What would our world look like then?

Imagine a world filled with people who have vibrant health and energy. What could we achieve?

Isn’t that thought mind boggling?

Is it possible to take our current world of disease and depression and change it to one filled with energy and optimism?

I’d like to believe that we could make a real difference. What do you think? Isn’t it an exciting idea?

But, it’s not going to be easy. First we have to get people out of the clutches of ‘The System.”

The system that keeps people brainwashed and enslaved. The system that keeps people too weak to even care.

The system is a web of deception and profiteering at the expense of humanity.

I’ll tell you about ‘The System’ tomorrow.

Carole
