Killer Tomatoes Back in Hiding

Posted under Recalls & Warnings

Wow, over 383 people in 30 states have gotten sick from the latest tomato samonella outbreak - since April.

Why is it that tomatoes weren’t pulled until June? And they’re saying they may never be able to track down the exact cause. How comforting.

Major fast food chains have started putting tomatoes back on their burgers. I had to laugh at the comments posted here- (opens in a new window)

All in all, at this point you can probably feel pretty safe eating tomatoes. Especially if you stick to ‘on the vine’. But for me - I think I’ll stick to farmers markets. There’s lots of beautiful great tasting stuff out there right now. Why buy the inferior grocery stuff anyway?

Next time you’re about to drive past that vegetable stand - pull in. There’s great stuff waiting for you there.

To Great Summer Eating!

Cost of Living

Posted under Misc. Thoughts

I had to go buy both dog and cat food before work yesterday.

Are They Crazy?

I can’t believe how much that stuff has gone up. It’s close to doubled in the last couple of months.

My friend says that people are dumping their animals in record numbers because they just can’t afford to take care of them.

OK, so you can’t afford utilities, you can’t afford gas in your car to go anywhere, you can’t afford food, you can’t afford drugs, you can’t afford pets…

Maybe my sister had a really good idea when she bought that farm?

Looks like we’re going to have to go back to living on the land. I’d better go plant my lettuce…

Thank heaven I live where I don’t feel compelled to leave my property, I’m plenty entertained right here, and I don’t have to take drugs!

If I didn’t have a job, I wouldn’t need clothes much either. But, I do have a job - so I’d better put on some of those work appropriate clothes and get to work!

Talk to you later.

Carole

P.S. The reason I don’t have to take drug is because I eat right and get enough exercise. You should try it.

Tinkering

Posted under Misc. Stuff

Hi there!

This has been one long week for me. The boss is on vacation, which means we have to cover store hours with fewer people. And doesn’t it figure that the mandatory Manager’s meeting also had to be this week?

Had to drive 2 hours to get to the meeting. The meeting itself was OK. Nice to see people that you don’t normally get to see. And anytime you can pick up even just a couple of good nuggets that will make you better, it’s always worth it. Plus, they fed us a pretty good lunch!

Fortunately, the traffic heading back to the store wasn’t too bad. It only took me 2 hours back. I feel really sorry for the people who had to head south!

In spite of the job, I have been tinkering with my new project. I’m learning a few new tricks too. While it’s only a skeleton so far, you can see the beginnings of the new project here >>>

Like I always tell you, do a little bit whenever you have a few minutes, no matter what the project is - and eventually you’ll get it done. If you wait until you have a big block of time available to start working on something…. well, that never happens now, does it?

So it will be with this project. It will evolve a little bit every day.

I picked up a good book that’s helping a lot too. If you’re running a word press blog, you might want to pick up Word Press for Dummies. It will open up a whole new world of possiblilties for you.

I also read ‘The Attractor Factor” this week. Since a new version is coming out, I figured I’d read the old one. Plus, I really needed some time off the computer. I like to read real books once in a while.

There was nothing really new in it if you’ve been a student of self improvement. I actually use a lot of the same principles in Whole Life Overhaul. But it never hurts to be reminded. We get so busy that we forget to think right sometimes.

I’m going off to veg now. I hope you have a great weekend!

I hate all my shorts

Posted under healthy eating

Seriously.

Except the really old comfy cut-offs. And I’ve had those for years and years. I was wearing a pair last weekend that was a size 7/8. Yeah, that was the old sizing. In todays world, I’m a size 4.

It’s supposed to make you feel better that you wear a smaller size so you’ll buy more. And for most people, it works. But I don’t feel better.

I wish they’d go back to the old way of sizing when everyone knew exactly where you stood. No smoke and mirrors.

My mother always wore a size 12. I can’t imagine her as a size 8. It just wouldn’t seem right. I guess she probably would have felt great about it. She never ever wore shorts. Maybe if she thought like a person who wears a size 8 she would. ARgh. Mind Games!

A friend of mine buys all these celebrity news magazines. There’s always a story about everyone being too thin. Now, I’ll admit that a couple of them are pushing the line a little too far. But they keep picking on a couple of people who swear they eat healthy.

I’m here to testify that if you eat healthy and get exercise, it is nearly impossible to gain weight. Leave the poor girls alone. No wonder they’re all such a mess.

Now, back to my original problem. Where can us skinny women (over say 30) get a decent pair of shorts?

P.S. You can be too skinny too. Just eat like I do.

She’s Cleaning House Again

Posted under Household Tips

What else would any self respecting mother be doing at almost midnight?

I know, I’m a sick girl - but I’ll tell you what, That 15 minutes that I force mysefl to do these few things is the greatest investment. I wake up to a clean kitchen and bathroom every morning.

And when you take a few minutes and hit it every day, there’s no build up. It really only takes a few minutes.

Or maybe you prefer spending your Saturdays cleaning house? Dragging out the sandblaster to get the bathroom clean?

Seriously - here’s what you do:

Wash all of the dishes. Wipe down the counters and stove and sink. It takes only a couple of minutes. Just do it.

Squirt some toliet cleaner in the toliet. Do a quick swish.

When you’re done with your shower - squeegee the shower walls.

When you’re done with the sink - take a paper towel and wipe down the sink, towel bars, and quick wipe of the toliet.

Keep paper towels and glass cleaner in the bathroom so it’s easy to do a quick clean up.

That’s really all there is to it. You’ll hardly ever have any hard cleaning to do if you just do little things consistently.

Just a life saving tip.
