Spammers in Disguise

Posted under Misc. Stuff

I almost flipped out. Today I received another one of those spam emails, from me. The nerve! Not only do they use my domain name to spam, but they send me a copy. How nice. I have no idea how to stop them. I’ve asked my hosting company. I’ve written repeatedly to the FTC.

The sites they send you to are things like nearidea.com, skinlisten.com, ohrug.com,  systemcorn.com, jumpremember.com…

But what’s even freakier is that since I’ve changed to a blog broadcast format for the emails, so have they. The links are all disguised as links to health related articles. And who knows what you’d get if you clicked on any of those links - viruses, trojans, who knows? It’s really creepy to me that they seem to be watching what I do very carefully.

So, here’s the lesson - get in the habit of hovering over a link before you click on it to see where it actually leads. Even if it looks ike an email is coming from someone you trust, it might not be them sending it.

Be careful out there!

Sale Paper Menu Planning

Posted under Diet & Health

A lot of people complain that eating healthy is too expensive. It’s not when you know some secrets…

Of course I’m going to tell you. Hold your horses already!

One thing you may not know about me is that I’m cheap. I don’t like spending more money than I have to.

On the other hand, I don’t buy garbage usually either. At least, not on purpose ;-)

No matter what my financial condition has been, we’ve always been able to eat well. It’s no secret that I totally dislike most packaged foods. They taste bad. Not to mention that they’re bad for you.

Call me a food snob – but we don’t eat food that tastes bad. Why should we? There’s a lot of ‘foods’ that other people eat regularly that you will NEVER find in my house. ICK, ICK, ICK.

So, how can you eat real food for less money than garbage food?

Become a loss leader shopper. You know – all those great bargains that they use to lure you into the store, knowing that you’ll spend a lot more on other stuff? Except, you’re not going to spend money on the other stuff. You’re going to plan your menus using only what’s on sale.

The other great thing about shopping this way is that there is always something different on sale. You’ll have new menus all of the time!

I’ll take the sale paper from a smaller grocery store in the area since that will more closely match stores in any area of the US.

OK, so – this week we have Americas cut pork chops for $1.89 a pound. Cheap!

A pound of tail on shrimp for $4.99 – that’s a good one too! Shrimp scampi? Yum! Of course, we’ve been known to just pig out on the shrimp with a big salad.

A whole watermelon for $2.99. Early, but for that price, I’ll get one.

Eggs, 99 cents. Can you believe the price of eggs lately? Sheesh.

I only eat organic chicken now – so I skip those sales – but there is a family pack of split chicken breasts for 99 cents a pound. It really only takes a couple minutes to cut it off the bone and skin it.

Lean ground beef for 2.49 a pound? I wonder about that one. I only buy 90 or 95%.

Angus sirloin for 3.99 a pound. That’s good. Throw it in marinade before work and it will be a great fast dinner.

And I always keep spaghetti fixings in the house in case of emergency. No jars! ICK!

And there’s at least one night a week that we don’t eat at home. Either we eat at a friend’s, or go out, or get a pizza and watch a movie.

On to the veggies and stuff!

Red and green bell peppers – 79 cents a pound. That will go good with the marinated steak.

Tomatoes, 99 cents a pound. Always need those.

Ohhh, zucchini. I can make chicken with zucchini and tomatoes. Love that!

Coleslaw – I can make that coleslaw with the pineapple for a change. And pineapple is on sale too. Cool.

Sweet potatoes and baking potatoes are both on sale. I like sweet potatoes with pork chops. Cooked apples too – and there are apples on sale too.

Plus we’ll have pineapple and watermelon and apples for snacking. Oranges are pretty cheap too - $1.99 for 4 lbs. So are baby carrots - $1 lb.

A bag of spinach for salad - $1.50. Onions are always cheap.

OK, that’s enough already!

That’s how it’s done. Of course, it helps if you have my cookbook too ;-)

(You can either get the cookbook by itself here – or, you can get it as part of the whole High Energy Eating Package.)

Have fun with your healthy meal planning!

I’m hungry now…

Who Should Really be Expelled?

Posted under Misc. Stuff

OK, this is a definite rant!

I am sick and tired of people who come to the US for the freedoms provided, and then proceed to try to destroy eveything this Country Stands For and Was Built Upon. How do you think we got these freedoms in the first place?

Look at this -

“It’s (EXPELLED) going to appeal strongly to the religious, the paranoid, the conspiracy theorists, and the ignorant –– which means they’re going to draw in about 90% of the American market.”
-Atheist blogger and fabulist PZ Myers, on a film he has not yet seen.

Hahah. People who believe in god are wasting their lives.”
-Zeno Izen

You know what? If this is such a bad place, and 90% of us are so stupid,
GO LIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Doesn’t that make sense?

If you don’t like living in this country, consider yourself Expelled. It’s a free country - you’re free to go anytime.

The movie that’s causing all of the anti-God, anti-Americans to come slithering out of the woodwork again is Expelled. If you want more info about the movie - here is the link to the trailers >>>

Might I remind you that the Bible said this would happen. It’s only the beginning.

How Sweet is Your Water?

Posted under Diet & Health

My neighbor gave a kidney to her husband last year. During a recent check-up, they found that her liver enzymes were elevated.

The only thing that she has done differently is that she had started drinking Propel. The only thing I can see that might be a problem is that it contains 4 grams of sugar in every bottle. That’s the equivalent to 1 teaspoon of regular table sugar. So, it is possible that her liver is working harder to compensate. She’s now cut that out, and we’ll see what happens.

The other day, they had the new Snapple vitamin water on sale. Vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, and 14 grams of sugar!

Let’s put that in perspective -

A regular serving of Regular Whipped cream has less than 1 gram of sugar.
A teaspoon of regular sugar is 4 grams of sugar.
A serving (3) of European Belgian Chocolate Cookies has 10 grams of sugar
A serving of Chocolate Raspberry Decadence Warm Delights has 17 grams of sugar.

So there’s 3 1/2 teaspoons of sugar in one bottle of Snapple vitamin water.

Do we really have to have sugar in our water too?

Don’t be fooled. Take your vitamins and drink plain old water.

There is a whole barrage of “healthy” foods coming out. Read those labels. Don’t fall for the hype on the front label.

If you want to stay thin and healthy for life - eat real food.

Eat Well!

Are You Eating Hogwash Today?

Posted under Diet & Health

In this day of Biochemical dietary hazards, it is ‘Buyer Beware’!

Here’s a quiz. You’re having pumpkin pie and you need whipped cream. You don’t have time to make real whipped cream. Do you buy a can of whipped cream, or Cool Whip Lite? Cool Whip Lite is recommended by South Beach Diet, so that must be the right choice, right?

Let’s read the labels –

Cool Whip Lite
Calories 20 From Fat – 10
Saturated Fat – 1 g 5% 0 trans fat
Total carb – 3 g 1%
Sugars – 1 g

Water, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil, less than two percent of sodium caseimate (from milk), natural and artificial flavor, modified food starch, xanthan and guar gums, polysorbate 60, sorbitan monostearate, sodium polyphosphates, beta carotene (for color)

Readi-Whip - Regular
Calories 15 From Fat 10
Saturated Fat - .5g 3% 0 trans fat
Total carb – less than 1g 0%
Sugars less than 1 g

Cream, non-fat milk, corn syrup, sugar, mono and diglycerides, natural and artificial flavors, carrageenan, propellant, nitrous oxide

The right choice is a no-brainer, right? Don’t be fooled by hype and false claims on the front labels.

Did you pick up your copy of Suicide by Diet? There’s a lot you need to know about the food you’re eating!

Eat Well!
