Motivational
I’ve got a secret. I write this blog in little bits throughout
the week. Just like I teach you to reach your goals, just like
I keep my house so clean – little bits here and there, but on
a consistent basis. So, if things seem a little disjointed some-
times, it’s because I’ve written things on different days. Like
today, while I’m writing this particular part, it is Thursday.
What a beautiful day it is. You don’t need your winter coat.
The sun is out. It’s like a spring day. Last year was soooo cold.
And you know me, it’s hard for me to stay indoors when it’s
nice out. But I had to tell you about a friend of mine.
I’ve mentioned her before. This time last year, she was growing
into a size 14, with no end in sight. She was sick almost all the
time. She was always sort of dumpy looking. I started telling her
about my e-book, which at the time was Getting a Thin Attitude.
She started trying to at least get more fruits and veggies into her
diet, and started taking vitamins. And pretty quickly she wasn’t
getting sick as often.
But when I say she was trying to eat more fruits and veggies,
I mean that in the most minimal terms. She hadn’t quite taken
that very seriously. Then, last summer while I was working on
the rewrite of the e-book, which is now High Energy Eating, she
picked it up and read it. She even stole it one night and took it
home to read it. I would catch her reading through the food
guides finding the things that she liked to eat. When I saw
her yesterday, I couldn’t believe my eyes!
She was wearing tight jeans and a cute sweater. Her hair was
done in spiral curls. She was just glowing. She proudly showed
me the size 8 jeans she had just bought. She announced that
she is throwing away her size 16s because she will never need
those again.
Here is a girl in her early 30’s. Her life is changed forever.
She is so happy. I’ve no doubt that a relationship probably
won’t be far off. I’m so happy for her.
That’s why I do what I do. I just really had no idea of the full
impact it could have on someone’s life. Even I’m blown away.
And she’s done it without dieting. Hey, she was at my house for
Thanksgiving dinner. She brought the chocolate pecan, and the
pumpkin pies. The only noticeable change is that when she does
fast food, it’s Subway instead of - you know…. We still pig out
on our favorite cheap donuts once in a while. She is not dieting
by any means, yet the pounds are just falling off.
In my gift basket tradition, I put together some gift basket for the
adults. I hit the European section and picked out various cookies
and candies, got some coffee, and green tea. I thought everyone
would roll their eyes. But to my surprise, everyone was having
fun reading the labels, finding out where stuff came from. My
niece even commented that the goodies from other countries
were healthier than ours. Good observation. And most everyone
was excited about the green tea. Wow. Am I really getting through
to people?
You have no idea how gratifying that is. To think that we maybe
could finally turn this ship around is overwhelming to me. I mean,
that was the goal, but I didn’t really think it was going to happen
in any big way. But maybe….
I have really high expectations for 2007. When I look back and
see how much I’ve accomplished over the last couple of years,
I am amazed. Even though I’m not where I had hoped to be by
now, I’m still happy with the progress I’ve made. As Mr. Rogers
says “To do the best we can with what we have is the best we
can expect of ourselves and others.”
How about you? What are your goals? What do you want to
accomplish this next year? When you go to bed at night, do you
feel like you’ve done the best you could with what you have?
Food for thought…

Diet & Health The weather has been incredibly warm for December.
That foot of snow is almost gone.
We spent a lot of time outdoors
today. The dog has passed out me. I love it when
I can actually wear him out. My life challenge!
It’s been so nice to get out and walk. I did the
2 mile dog walk twice today. Once earlier with a
friend, and again tonight so I could enjoy the
Christmas decorations. How magical they are.
Even without snow.
Did you ever notice that your tastes change
with the weather? Last week I was eating chili,
now I want chicken and cheesburgers and big
salads.
So, does that mean if I lived in Florida I would
never want pot roast? That would be terrible.
I love it with tons of carrots, and onions, and
tomatoes. Potatoes are ok, just not one of my
favorites. Georgia says that’s the reason I stay
thin. I think that’s part of it.
Oprah said eat nothing white in her diet book.
I don’t care for mayo, ranch dressing, sour cream,
or cream cheese unless it’s mixed with an equal
amount of sugar. Love cheesecake!
The things I naturally don’t eat are certainly
replaced by the bad things I do eat. I eat way too
much sugar and chocolate. They say that people have
either a sweet or a salty tendancy. It’s not scientific,
but it seems to me that thinner people have the sweet
tendancy.
But a balanced diet can help make up for whatever our
particular weaknesses are. Make sure you are eating
enough of the good stuff - the fruits, veggies, protein,
fiber, etc. Especially make sure to get at least 5
servings of frutis and veggies - and take your vitamins
to make up for your bad habits!
Like I said before, your body is a marvelous machine.
If you just give it the right fuel, it will take good
care of you!
Have a great day!

Diet & Health There is an ultimate balance in nature. I get to see
a bit more of it than many of you.
For example - last week, a goose actually got stuck
on the ice on the lake in front of my house. There
was no way to get out to it. Of course, it died.
Next came the vultures. It was kind of like watching
the Discovery Channel outside my window. But they don’t
show you the pieces left laying all over my yard, and
the splatters left on my house - and especially on my
window right in front of my computer - that the birds
drop. I won’t get too graphic here…
Now, I can hang out the window and try to clean it, or
get out an extension ladder, or just wait for the rain
later today. Nature will take care of it.
Overnight, somehow what remains of the goose ended up in
my yard. Judging by the odd missing pieces, I have to
assume that the coyotes have been here. Coyotes don’t
necessarily kill for food. They kill for the fun of it.
So, they’ve been entertained too.
I can go out there and clean up the rest, or I can let
nature continue to take it’s course. Soon, there will
be no evidence that anything happened. Nature will
take care of it.
So why am I telling you all of this?
Nature also takes care of things when it comes to your
body. It is a fine tuned machine - when you treat it right.
It breaks down fuels and distributes them. It heals itself.
It provides energy. It’s really amazing.
All you have to do is give it the right stuff - and nature
takes care of it. Unfortunately - people give their bodies
all this fake unnatural stuff - and then the body has to
struggle to figure out what to do with it. This unnatural
gunk clogs up the works, and things start to break down.
It can no longer regulate weight, heartbeat, blood flow,
and all the other million functions it needs to handle.
All you have to do is eat a natural balanced diet, and get
a little exercise. Nature will take care of it from there.
But instead, people choose to try more unnatural solutions -
weight loss pills, weird diets, tons of prescription drugs -
and they end up with even more problems than before.
Instead of all this stress and struggle, why not just let
nature take care of it? Start by banning fake foods in your
house. Eat natural foods as much as possible. It’s the first
step in reclaiming your health.
Until next time - be healthy!

Diet & Health How cool is this? New York City is banning Trans Fats
in the City’s restaurants. That is bold! I congratulate
them on that action.
You can read the story here -
http://tinyurl.com/v9d6t
Maybe we can’t force people to save their own lives by
eating healthier, but we can make what they are being fed
healthier. Besides, real butter is better for you than the
trans fast and tastes a lot better.
In a radio conversation about a new smoking ban in the area,
I said that fast food should be outlawed - it kills more
people than smoking. I never thought someone would actually
do it. I think that’s cool. How about you? I mean, there is
no value in trans fats unless you are part of the multi billion
dollar food industry who is making a killing (pun intended)
by creating fake foods. But for the rest of us, it is unhealthy
and doesn’t taste good. Why are people so willing to keep
billions of dollars to keep themselves sick?
I know, the real answer is laziness. But honestly, it doesn’t
take that much effort to eat at least a little healthier -
Oh my gosh, I am really on the soapbox tonight, aren’t I?
But it’s true. If everyone were to change their diet just
a little bit - we wouldn’t have so much disease, we would
halt the obesity epidemic, people would live a better
quality of life longer, people would be less dependant on
prescription drugs…I don’t get it.
New York City’s ban is a great first step. We’ll see how it
holds up. I’ll bet the food industry has it’s chemists busy
in the lab working overtime to find another fake solution.
You can create your own ban. Eat real food. Use butter or
olive oil instead of fake fats. Just that little move will
make you somewhat healthier. I won’t go into anymore changes
tonight. I’ll reserve further preaching for another night.
If you really want to get into healthier eating, easily -

It’s my mission to make you healthier and happier.
Until next time -
